With the release of the new Necromunda rulebooks this weekend I thought it would be cool to have a look at some of my favourite models from the original version, which as yet have not been reimagined (although there is promise of a Psykers expansion to Necromunda so hopefully some time next year)
WYRDS & BEASTMASTERS . The first page is 153 from the 1997 Catalogue at at time when these models were pretty much brand new and the second is page 25 from the Specialist Games Catalogue from 2004, which contains exactly the same models but I have added as its cool to see a few of them painted by the studio, really brings them to life.. especially my absolute favourite, the Telepath.
4 types of Wyrds(psykers) existed back in the day. The beastmasters, designed by Aly Morrison (who also did the awesome Spyrer models for this range) get 3 sculpts and of course bring those amazing critters (by Trish Morrison) to the game. The Ripper Jacks are such iconic miniatures from this time period, but I doubt they will look the same if they are released this time round.
The other 3 Wyrds get one sculpt each by Brian Nelson (who I thought did amazing work and was much underused by GW) and each one has real individuality and all stand the test of time. The Pyromaniac seems to hark back to earlier Brat Ganger models for Confrontation with that radical mohawk/hair (although I think having a fire based psyker with long hair seems a little dangerous) and its fun to see him painted with 'Flame coloured hair' in the 2004 Catalogue. The Telepath would still look amazing in a modern cult army as a standard/sanctioned psyker etc and the scale would still work in a 30k renegade/traitor army.
