Well, this sucks. I took this iPhone shot of my 1969 VW bus, Clementine, on a senior portrait session two days ago. We’ve had her for about 3 months, and her motor only has 60k miles on it. It’s practically new, doesn’t leak oil, and I just it off topped off 3 weeks ago. Well, about 3 hours after I took this photo, she threw a rod driving down the freeway, and now I have to replace the whole dang engine. No oil indicator light, no funny smells, just “pop!”, and white smoke started billowing from the rear vents. Talk about a rough night. Now she’s in my buddy’s shop for the next couple of weeks while repairs are made. So I’ve been in a bit of a funk the past couple of days, and could use some great news. Tell me something good!
Big CV's, stub axles and inputs installed to round out the IRS rear end conversion.
Before you judge....
Back story is..... when I got the truck it had been hacked up for a 5-speed conversion. Transmission horns and the hoop had been hacked out and then poorly re-grafted back in after one of the previous owners changed his/her mind on the 5-speed swap (I'm in the process of "fixing" the horns and hoop damage). It then got a IRS 4-speed trans along with a standard Wolfgang IRS kit. It was then purchased by a local VW guy who owned it for several years.....fast forward to now..... I own him, and am trying to restore this old guy's dignity as best I can without moving backwards too much more. He was ugly with house paint and primer over more than 85% of the exterior. What interested me was that the truck was rust free and solid for the most part. He's now going to live with me for a while as my daily driver 😁 #aircooledvw#aircooledinteresting#vwtype2#siglecab#vwsinglecab#vwtransporter#vwbus#vintagespeedvw#oldspeed#volkswagen#volkswagenbus#bulli
