Ogni mattina è una giornata intera che riceviamo…
Non vi è nulla di troppo e nulla di “non abbastanza”,
nulla di indifferente e nulla di inutile. È un capolavoro.
E con questo pensiero del mattino, mi avvio al lavoro!
Our visit of the Florence Cathedral took place over 2 days as we couldn't get a reservation to climb Brunelleschi's Dome until Sunday, even with the Firenze card.
We had to stand in line for over an hour to enter the cathedral as we were early, and by the time we entered, the queue had snaked around the entire building.
After we decided to climb up Giotto's Bell Tower before visiting the crypt and the Baptistry of San Giovanni. We were surprised by the grandiosity of the cathedral but the baptistry was also extremely impressive.
By the time Sunday rolled around, we'd already climbed up other towers and to be honest, I wasn't too keen on it. Despite having timed entries, we needed to queue again. I was planning to just ascend up to the point where I could see frescoes on the dome up close, then go back down, but it was a narrow, one way system.
All in all, the Florence cathedral is definitely worth the time (believe me, you will have to queue a lot). If you want to climb the dome, then the best thing to do is to buy the ticket way in advance online and reserve the timed entry at the same time. Entry to the cathedral is free, just watch out for the very strict rules about attire. Unlike other churches, Florence Cathedral doesn't provide paper ponchos for people with uncovered shoulders and bare knees.
I can't say I find the Firenze card worth its price, we only decide to buy it as we weren't able to buy tickets to the Galleria dell'Accademia online and didn't want to waste our limited time trying to queue to get in.
