When I started planning my trip around Europe, Greece was not specifically on my must visit list. But when I selected the a Transatlantic & Mediterranean Cruise there were a few ports in Greece, so I was happy to visit and see the area.
One of the ports that I visited while onboard Holland America Lines, Nieuw Amsterdam was Nafplio a small coastal town. It is situated in a rather hilly area that surrounds the northern end of the Argolic Gulf.
Above the town on the hillside sits a fortress built in the early 1700’s named Palamidi. Even though it is rather grand in size it was completed in a relatively short period between 1711 and 1714. While the fortress is grand one thing captured my attention more so and it is likely the reason why the fortress was built in this location, that is the view, which is outstanding.
