The redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) is the tallest tree in the world, surpassing 110 meters. It is also one of the widest ones, as you can see in the first photo! Come visit northern California and southern Oregon to discover these wonderful forests.
We felt inspired and jolted by a quote from the Dalai Lama shared by @saltyluxe yesterday, so thought we would share it here as well.✨
When asked what surprised him about humanity the most, the Dalai Lama replied: “Man. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.” (photo is an outtake from our book ‘At Home in Joshua Tree’ for our Moroccan rug guide in collaboration with @soukiemodern) #athomeinjoshuatree

The @instagram algorithm. It seems to me that the magic number for my posts is 300. The faster I get to that many likes, the more exposure my image gets. If it happens in an hour or so, the likes will soar over 1000. If it takes all day, then the likes trickle in one at a time and it takes days just to get to 400. It’s very odd to me that a mediocre image I posted several days ago got 1400 likes and a much better image I just posted got 250 likes. Just confirms for me that nothing within instagram’s algorithm has anything to do with how good an image really is. How good of an image is purely subjective. And the only way to make that work is to display posts chronology (in searches too) and let the users decide what is a good image, not the algorithm. Agree or disagree, it’s just my random thought for today.
When was the last time you braved camping in Autumn/Fall?
It's less crowded and it's just as good (if not better) than summer camping.
We visit Portola Redwoods State Park each September for a weekend getaway with @mcallister.m's family and it's always a blast!
Check out the blog (link in bio) for more reasons you should go camping in the fall AND find out about how great Portola is!
A full moon is approaching us and this one is a little special, not because it is bigger/brighter (aka super moon), but because it is tied to the season harvest and is duly called the Harvest Moon.
According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, the Harvest Moon is related to the annual gathering of crops. During this time, the crops that spent the summer growing and becoming ripe would officially be ready to pick. The Harvest Moon marked an annual excursion in which farmers would bring in the food and resources they needed to make it through the colder and darker months. ************
In China and Vietnam, people will be celebrating the mid-autumn festival popularly called the mooncake festival, which is also tied to the season harvest and of course to the same full moon. Fascinating!
In this picture from a few years ago, harvest moon rises over Black Mountain in Montebello Open Space Preserve near Palo Alto. The last remnants of evening light lights up the mountain top and brings the scene to life. Happy mooncake festival everyone!

I’m sitting in Heathrow for two hours waiting for my connection to Dublin and all I want to do is rush out of the airport and into the city for Dishoom. Torture. Enjoy this calm interior & happy Friday! #thespacesilike

Life is all about change and transformation. Without it, there is no growth. I remember when I would resist change because it was scary and uncomfortable, but it’s the only way to make space for something new and something better. What’s something in your life that you have to to change? What’s keeping you from doing it? #thelagirl
Good morning Stockton! It's time for this weekend's Guest Instagrammer takeover. Each weekend we hand-pick Instagrammers to share their Stockton Story. Please give a warm welcome to Natalie Peterson (@nataliepetersen).
Good morning Stockton! I’m Natalie, nice to meet you. I’ve lived in Stockton my whole life and have worked for multiple local businesses here - I’m all about #supportlocal . When I’m not working I can usually be found taking photos, reading, drinking with friends, etc. I’ve also been involved with the art community here the past few years, primarily through @placeholdermagazine. I think it’s super important to highlight the good in our city and focus on how to make Stockton the best it can be. Our city produces some pretty inspirational people. I can’t wait to share my weekend with you all! 🤗 .
