Moving Targets - Burning In Water (1986) | Next to Vanilla Ice, I found this jewel in the dollar bin yesterday. What a discovery! I've heard the band name, but never the music. And I noticed the record especially because the singer wears a Led Zeppelin shirt on the cover. So I took the record with me and honestly, I wasn't prepared for this album. The record is a masterpiece and far ahead of its time. Every song is a banger, the drummer is playing for his life and they've got plenty of hooks for eternity. Emotional punk music that played right into my heart. The opener alone is worth at least ten times more than what I paid for the album yesterday. What a trouvaille. 🙌 Do you know the band? And why are they not at least as big as Hüsker Dü?
#pullingfromthejazzstacks In one of the many tributes to the Queen this week, I came across a quote regarding covers, effectively saying Aretha didn’t cover other people’s songs; she reinvented and reimagined them in ways that gave them a whole new life as performance and composition. This album features breathtaking versions of Son of a Preacher Man, Let It Be, Eleanor Rigby and her epic version of The Weight. (Plus her original Call Me.) I’ve been listening to/playing/watching performances by Aretha so much for the last week it’s shaped my mood and feels and senses walking the world. The most influential voice of the second half of the 20th century. She touched everyone. Keep the records spinning and listen close for a choir of angels backing her up singing down from the heavens. #arethafranklin#thisgirlsinlovewithyou#sundaystorelax#atlanticrecords#1970#duaneallman#vinylculture#recordcollection#digginginthecrates#thequeenofsoul
