Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - Who Built The Moon?: Their 3rd LP released in 2017 by Caroline Records/Sour Mash. A great slab of psychedelic indie rock/Brit pop, my favorite of Noel's post Oasis records. I really can't decide whether I like this or Liam's 2017 release better hah. Hopefully the Gallagher boys can truly bury the hatchet one day because I think we can all agree they're best together, I'd kill for an Oasis reunion haha!
Lowtide - Southern Mind: Their 2nd LP released earlier this year by Opposite Number pressed on translucent green. Fantastic Aussie shoegaze band! This album is brimming with gorgeously lush atmospheres. If you dig shoegaze and haven't heard this yet get on it ASAP!
Svalbard - It's Hard To Have Hope: Their 2nd LP released earlier this year by Translation Loss Records/Holy Roar Records pressed on translucent gold. This record fuckin' DESTROYS! Extremely intense blackened post hardcore out of the UK with lots of beautiful moments amongst the chaos. They also take on social injustice at full force which is a huge plus. This album ranks very highly amongst my favorite post hardcore releases of the year!
Trash Boat - Crown Shyness: Their 2nd LP recently released by Hopeless Records on brown vinyl. I liked the debut album from these UK punks but this blows it away IMO! I'd say that's mostly due to it being a lot less pop punk and a lot more melodic hardcore hah. This record has a fair amount in common with the emo/punk bands I loved in the early/mid 2000's. Pretty random... but at times I actually hear strong similarities to Story Of The Year's totally underrated 2nd album "In The Wake Of Determination" haha.
Bass Drum Of Death - Just Business: Their 4th LP recently released by Century Media. Hell yeah, after 4 years away BDOD have returned! I was starting to wonder if these guys were ever going to end their hiatus hah. This one definitely has a more polished sound than their previous releases but it still kicks plenty of ass. Really fun garage rock record, glad they're back!
I’ve only ever owned this album on cassette as part of a two-fer with Wild Planet back when I was like 13 or 14 years old. When moved over to CDs, I never bought a copy. I never felt the need to buy a copy on vinyl because that shit was EVERYWHERE. When Rhino decided to reissue it on yellow vinyl, I was gonna pass as well. But I saw that they didn’t cut corners and actually included the inner sleeve with lyrics. They could have just made it a total cash grab and just made the record and the sleeve and sell it for $20. To add to that, the record was opaque yellow instead of boring translucent yellow. So I bit.
the XX | "XX"
First US press
What's harder to believe? The fact this record turns NINE years old today (happy birthday, xx) or that the four band members were only a fresh faced 20 years old when they made it? The debut from the UK night time R&B pop act, the XX is slick, polished and so refined you'd think it came from some studio savvy veterans. Not to mention the record's lyrical themes are almost exclusively about sex and the ups & downs of interpersonal relationships. Personally, I can’t believe it’s been nearly a decade. I used to listen to this album almost nightly, and by the way, it *has* to be listened to at night. It’s sleek, sexy, haunting, space and atmospheric, beautifully captivating and blissfully serene all at once. Jamie xx’s often minimalist beats providing the backbone for Oliver Sim’s forefront bass lines and singer/guitarist Romy’s sparse, reverby guitar, while the two complement one another’s vocals . I don’t listen to it much anymore, but spinning it again tonight I can tell ya - it’s a damn shame; ‘xx’ certainly doesn’t *sound* like it could be a debut. The whole thing is mint, but the first half especially is just… 👌🏼 Fair to call it a classic? And nevermind the tears on die-cut sleeve... being beside their second (and also die-cut sleeved) album "Coexist" in the bin causes for some snags... typing it now... 🤔 I realize I really should have a plastic sleeve over em... 🤦🏼♂️ 9.0

On November 2, 2001, I found one of the legendary advanced CD copies of #Misfits ’ 12 Hits From Hell album at Aron’s Records (RIP) in Hollywood. I don’t think I knew that the release had been canceled at that point. I think someone just happened to get a finished promo copy (with the full booklet) and traded it in. According to my purchases spreadsheet, I paid $9.73 for it.
I remember going to the shop (probably Aron’s as well) to grab the record the day it was supposed to be released only to find it hadn’t come out. I think it was a few weeks later that I found out the whole release had been cancelled. Boy, I was glad I got a copy of the CD!
Literally nine months later, on August 2, 2002, I was at Amoeba and saw a vinyl copy of the album. It was $15. I flipped over the cover and saw that it had the Caroline Records logo and a barcode on it. I thought maaaaybe it had been officially released? However, the cover was really thin and it felt bootleggy. The insert kiiinda looked legit but... So I looked on eBay to see if it had been sold before and it hadn’t. Just for kicks, I threw it on there with a Buy It Now of $100. Much to my surprise, it sold. I went back to Amoeba and bought the last few copies that they had left, which I think were three. Obviously I kept one and flipped the other two for another bill a piece.
For a bootleg probably mastered from the CD, This doesn’t sound too bad. I mean the recordings are pretty crappy to begin with. But I’m happy to have it despite the bootleggedness.
So Stressed - The Unlawful Trade Of Greco-Roman Art: Their debut LP released in 2015 by Honor Press. A blistering blend of noise punk and post hardcore! I first heard this band with their 2nd album, 2017's "Please Let Me Know" which I dug a whole lot. When I saw this one in the clearance bin at Bull Moose last week I figured it'd definitely be worth taking a chance on and it RIPS! They just recently released another one and from what I've heard it's a pretty drastic change of style, still gotta dig deeper on Spotify hah.
Foxing - Nearer My God
This is the standard version (gold with bone white splatter /3500)
I'm pretty blown away by this album. I dabbled in The Albatross (not sure why it didn't stick as basically all other bands in this genre do.) Liked Dealer but again, it never quite gave me that feeling where I HAD to sit down and read the lyrics with the music and pay close attention to every detail.
But so far a week or so into #NearerMyGod and I'm obsessed. I don't see how this will fall out of top 5 for 2018 for me.
@modernwax #AugustVinylChallenge Day 14: Got As A Gift
The Twilight Sad - Nobody Wants To Be Here And Nobody Wants To Leave
A gift from @fancypantsypictures . Thanks for giving me sad sad music for my sad sad self.
Keep finding the dark in the light
Maybe that will give the pressure release
It's building up, building deep inside
Paranoia driving take you for a ride
It's building up
Sleeping on rocks
Can't find the switch to stop the thoughts”
Plain and simple, this band jaaaams!
Turnstile – Nonstop Feeling (beer/45rpm/reissue)
#vinilico#vinylcollective#vinilbrasil#vinyladdict#vinyl#vinilclementinadejesus#vinylporn#vinilsamba#vinil#vinylove#vinilflorianopolis#vinilsantacatarina#vinylcollection
