Sakiori is a traditional Japanese technique of rag weaving. Fabric strips are cut finely and woven together. Like the word 'Mottainai', which means that the old can be made new and everything can be used again. The Sakiori technique reuses fabric too small to be sewn, instead of throwing them away.
We added these little details to make this cap distinctly Kiriko. Whether you’re running an errand or going to the game, wear it, love it, hand it down. Add another chapter to its story: Yours.
Morning everyone. This is the beginning of my journey and I hope you enjoy following me as I try to create designs of pretty floral fabrics to sell online. I have no qualifications with surface pattern design, so this really is going to be from the absolute beginner level. I will share all my resources that I find helpful along the way for anyone interested in the process. I shall also sell a few pieces of my artwork when i have some spare as I need to fund my project myself. I'm a mum of two, now all grown up and since I have a little more time on my hands and love art and homemaking, it makes sense to bring the two together. So hope you enjoy following and supporting my journey in to the world of fabric design.
I also have another instagram account following my life in our country cottage in Derbyshire if you wish to check it out. @behind_the_cottage_door
Who would play you in the story of your life? Willowy Cate Blanchett, versatile Nicole Kidman or my favourites from the new generation, Jennifer Lawrence or Kirsten Stewart.
Fo me it would be Peter Capaldi possibly with a northern English rather than Scottish accent. And not reprising his affable doctor role but Malcolm the foul mouthed spin doctor from "The Thick of it. "
I need that level of short fuse and bad language. Joking to a degree but I'm self employed for a reason; I hate being told what to do and I hate teamwork.
However a lovely big event like @thecountrybrocante at Daylesford turns things on its head. So lovely to be chatting to others in the business( networking I think they call it) and meeting lovely customers who may even have bought before online. A lovely sociable day.
Thank you to Annabel, Lucy, Clare and Clara who despite the rain and wind produced another smooth running, well organised fair with lots of happy customers.
Thanks to @catherinewatersantiques and @the_painted_room for being such lovely neighbours. Great to catch up with @littlewrenvintage, @bettyandviolet, @carolinezoobdesign and @llewelynandcompany who were nearby and a massive thank you to @dorothystiven and @geokynoch who put me up (put up with me) as an overnight guest not to mention ferrying furniture back! Thanks also to @gillihanna_antiques For van services!
Gosh this is turning into an Oscar winning acceptance!
Suffice to say I wasn't grumpy all day and could even need Gwyneth Paltrow's service acting as me!
Last but not least, thank you to my lovely customers, enjoy those goodies!
Ok last nursery image!
Refinished the dresser. Spent $50 total, and it's the perfect size with a mini wardrobe.
The radio is 50-60 years old and the only item I have from my maternal grandfather. He died at 38 so I never met him.
The teddy bear has a poodle skirt and is from the 50s.
All the children's books are from the 50s/60s.
The pillow fabric is my mom's from 45 years ago. I think she made a dress with it.
My color palette vision was tweaked throughout the decorating process, but the custom mobile (seen in one of the other nursery images) ended up tying it all together.
Today was a wonderful day! My sweet hubby took us to the doll exhibition #赤ずきんde文化祭 at the Antique shop 'Akazukin'(the Red hood) where I enjoyed seeing many wonderful artists' works! I adopted this little bunny very very tinily and exquisitely made by the talented creator Ms. @riryuru ! You can see how small she is as held by my Kiyo the Blythe doll in her little arms! I could also purchase some beautiful vintage fabrics. I thank Ms. Yayoi @yayoit0310 for the wonderful time at her shop. Also I thank my sweet hubby and little Y for patiently waiting for me while shopping! They are really really patient with me👨👧💕
