Sleek formal structure, glass halls and use of fresh building materials: The former Austrian pavilion, now building of the Belvedere 21, was seen as a prime example of modern architecture in 1958. Architect Karl Schwanzer had made a name for himself since the beginning of the 1950s, especially in connection with his exhibition designs in Chicago, Vienna and Paris, and set a clear signal for the new beginning of Austrian architecture after 1945.
