A huge thanks to All involved in getting Wilson back on his feet. Getting a second opinion with anything is so important and so worth while. To think thank a vet could say there was no hope for this guy is just so heartbreaking. Seeing him after his surgery this evening he’s a new dog and is going to make a full recovery. Thanks @x_xcfarrellx_x for all ur help a support be lost without u x #mansbestfriend#wilson#goldenretriever#loyal#dog#veterinaryhospital#athlone#dogsofinstagram#pet
Surgery Wednesday’s with @blairbear1112 are my fav! This is one of today’s dentals. So much tartar and build up. A simple scaling and polishing did the trick👌 oral health for pets is just as important, bad teeth leads to a number of problems. Don’t forget to get them checked out! #veterinary#veterinarydentistry#teeth#dogs
What do you use to scrub your patients?
I'm a big fan of chlorhexidine and chloroxylenol products as they are widely available at most hospitals. I will also use iodopovidine when available for patients with evidence of dermatitis and otherwise dirty skin (mud, fleas, etc.) How do you scrub your patients? Ideally the patient should go through two different scrub techniques. The first is called the "rough" or "dirty" scrub. It does not have a rhythm or a rhyme. It is used to break debris away from the skin and it is normally completed in the treatment/prep area. This should be completed until the scrub instrument is not tinged any color besides that of the scrub solution (obviously iodopovidine is different.) The "sterile" or "aseptic" scrub should be completed in a second area away from cross-contamination or in the . This scrub pattern starts from the intended incision site and works outwards in a circular motion. The scrub is not passed back through as to not contaminate the site. This process should be completed a minimum of 3 times.
Regardless of our scrubbing solution, we have discontinued the use of isopropyl alcohol as there are several papers stating it is unnecessary for microbial control if your scrub technique is solid. Plus, it serves as a tissue irritant. We use sterile saline in its' place or we just stick with straight up scrub. 📸 Reposted from: @veterinarytechnicians
