🇺🇸♥️”Regard your soldiers as your children, and they will follow you into the deepest valleys. Look on them as your own beloved sons, and they will stand by you even unto death!” - Sun Tzu ♥️🇺🇸 (My father, Bill O’Brien in Okinawa 1960.) #veteransday#happyveteransday#veteransday2018
Since this is Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, I thought I would share & honor my childhood hero with my IG Fam. My Grandpa Don was apart of WWII as the 2nd wave of forces that landed on the beaches of Normandy in 1944. He was in the European Theater for 2 yrs, earned himself a promotion, 3 battle stars & 4 medals for his service to his country. He is pictured here with his late wife, my grandma Audrey on one their last wedding anniversaries before he passed away of cancer in 1987. I miss them both dearly.

PPD volunteer Jim Inden was among many veterans honored at the Liberty Elementary School Veterans Day Assembly. Elementary students sang patriotic songs and thanked veterans for their service.
Jim served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and split his time on an aircraft carrier and Guam.
The Petaluma Police Department would like to thank veterans for their service to our country and we were honored to participate in the Veterans Day parade through downtown Petaluma on November 11, 2018.
"Depicting the Invisible" by @susanjbarron . The invisible wounds of war is what each and every vetetan has to bring back home with them, the memory of the tragedy they had to experience first hand, something a book nor documentary can ever truly have us understand what each man and woman had to go through. PTSD is a serious illness and according to Susan, there about 22 veterans that actually commit suicide every fucking day in our country. What Susan has done for not only these men and women alone in these photos I took there but a whole book of portraits she put together of people with thier own stories is nothing short of a blessing. The money raised from each book sold goes to Freedom Fighters Outdoors, an organization helping veterans with PTSD. If you see a veteran, don't be afraid to thank them, let them know they are not alone, you may actually save thier life.
This past Veterans Day, Hank & I had the honor of participating and chauffeuring female Air Force Veteran, Kylene, through the area's only Veterans Day Parade. Black Mountain held it's first annual Veteran Day Parade on November 11th 2018. A celebration Buncombe County (Asheville, NC) hasn't seen in many years. I decided to be a part of this event and missed the last autocross of the 2018 season. Sometimes your energy and passions take you in a different direction and are better served helping others and giving thanks.
Special note: Kylene and I hung out in my car for over an hour. She was a bit of a gearhead and I enjoyed hearing her car stories. I did find a safe area and gave her a rev limiter bangin' 1st & 2nd gear pull, that was the only time I saw her really smile, and it wasn't for long. Kylene's story was not a happy one. She is part of the rapidly growing population of homeless female veterans. In addition to trying to get back on her feet, Kylene is over 50, suffers from PTSD, and is a disabled veteran. She is on the road to a better life through the help of ABCCM (Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry), a worthy non-profit if you're ever looking to give a donation.

Susan J. Barron is a photographer that decided to pose 13 veterans who have and still suffer from PTSD today and honor them by sharing thier individual stories with thier portraits. These are some pictures I took of the opening night event from Veterans Day! I forgot I had these on my camera! I'll be posting more tomorrow.
Today is technically the day Veterans Day is observed so simply put....... THANK you to all the men and women who serve. And a special thanks to my #1 hero, my father, who served as an Airborne Ranger in Vietnam when it wasn’t “cool” to be in the military. A million trillion billion gazillion thank you’s aren’t enough. #merica 🇺🇸 #veteransday2018
