It's Children's Cooking Camp this week in our house and it's been time consuming to say the least - so far it's taken an extra hour to prep n' cook dinner but...I think the penny has finally dropped with my children as to why I occasionally get slightly 'annoyed' sometimes when they complain about what's on their plates! The two oldest looked at me in disbelief mid carrot chopping with their kid friendly @ikeaie knives when I said they'd to start peeling potatoes after and then into the homemade gougon making with the marinating of the chicken in buttermilk and garlic, the seasoned flour, beating of the eggs, breadcrumbs etc etc. Onwards and upwards and maybe a masterchef or 3 in the making! #childrencooking#lifeskills#healthyeatinghabits#cookwhatyoulike#vegetablesrock#familykitchen#needthepatienceofasaint
It’s a build your own #buddhabowl type of night at our house. Start with rice and beans, then add on the veggies of your choice and a little salsa or sauce. The hubby and I chose a green curry and the kids went for salsa. Everyone is happy. Definitely need to do this more often.
Balsamic beets with a pretty lil view! 🌻✌🏼 Not a bad way to spend a Monday, amiright?!
And the soundtrack in here today is BUMPIN’ if I do say so myself! Just danced in my seat to MMMBop and now Savage Garden is playing, so this 80s kid is pretty darn happy! How’s your Monday going?! 😃
During this past weekend, the Knox Community Gardens were able to obtain the use of the Community Space at Knox City Shopping Centre. We were present from 10:00am to 3:00pm and had a great response from the shoppers.
We had a constant stream of Knox residents approaching us and wanting to know more about the Community Gardens and expressing their support for the Knox Community Garden's Concept Plan for the use of the space, OPTION3.
What was universal was their objection to Crown land, which is reserved for community use being used for any commercial purpose.
In particular, they did not want to see the retention of the vines on site, recently described in the Knox Leader as “almost certainly unvialable” and “it historical yeilds were extremely low”, if it meant great disruption to the Community Gardens. Most expressed a desire for the Community Gardens to be expanded rather than minimised.
A common theme was that, with ever increasing development in Knox, these space are crucial for the livability of the area and should not be commercialised in any way.
We would like to take advantage of this groundswell of support and will keep everyone informed as to future developments.
Many thanks to the kind residents of Knox who showed so much interest
I meal prepped so many fresh veggies this week! I’ve got chicken, broccoli, cherry tomatoes, zucchini in the first picture, and chicken, broccoli, and sweet potatoes in the second picture; both seasoned with plenty of spices. 😍✨ #wOW#vegetablesrock#eatyourveggies
Do you know what an "Earthship" is? have a look at the attached. Wouldnt it be fantastic to see this type of sustainable building at the Knox Community Gardens as a Community space/education centre/gathering space etc. Supporting our option 3 concept proposal may well be the way forward for a more community inclusive sustainable Dinsdale

Watch my story for a perfect, disgusting example of this. I couldn’t even believe what I was seeing yesterday! 🍟
The food industry specifically makes these items and adds synthetic ingredients to make them addictive, and kids’ taste buds palate’s are being ruined from toddlerhood, and often before. 🍭
When they come to school, all they want to eat is processed junk food and won’t try or “don’t like” even the most seemingly kid-friendly foods. This school year my primary focus will be on the menu and getting kids to accept -and like!- real food!
Vote here: http://www.knox.vic.gov.au/haveyoursay *** KCGS’s reasons for voting this option are: All the plots would remain in place.
With the increase in population in Knox council living in High to medium density apartment housing, the Knox Community Gardens would expand and offer the privilege and the possibility of growing vegetable to rate payers who don't have access to land.
The gardens would advocate for the historical value of the vines be recognised with a walking path and arbour covered in the vines.
Re purposing the vine would allow for the development of the Dinsdale reserve which it was prior to the Vines and Gardens being established. The reserve would be available to all ages and abilities to come an enjoy this amazing space.
The Reserve would be open public land, open to all members of the public. If a commercial cellar/cafe and vineyard operator were to open, the land would be rezoned as commercial and greater potential in the future for housing to take over the site. losing the land to developers. The issue of spraying chemical of the vines is an issue with over spraying and contamination of vegetables. #kcgs#knoxcommunitygardens

I built this raised bed. It's 24' x 4' x 13". After assembling it, I put down a layer of cardboard, then fresh-cut grass, then a bunch of newspapers, some older grass clippings mixed with leaves, and a few inches of mulch. Tomorrow, weather permitting, I'll finish it off with compost and plant either asparagus or rhubarb. Then I'll get started on the other one (I've already cut the metal and wood supports), fill it, and plant the other crop. #plantpower#homestead#ultrarunner#vegetablesRock#plants
The most amazing middle eastern food @zigfridsdininghall! Exceptional flavours and service. We will definitely be back to try the rest of your menu. Pictured here are leek & feta croquettes, grilled zucchini w/zatar, hummus & basil and roast Jerusalem artichokes, torn bastourma & Persian feta. Yum yum yum!
