"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived." Henry David Thoreau
We have made a little tradition over the past few years of strapping a canoe to the roof in October and cruising around all the lakes before they freeze. This photo sums up each morning perfectly. Andrew on the roof with Colin’s yellow canoe, a pink haze blanketing the sky and me taking a step back in an attempt to take it all in.
If you ever want to feel small, all you need to do is catch a ride to Cali! The redwoods are more massive and majestic than I ever could have imagined. It’s crazy to think that these trees have seen standing for as long as 500-2000 years. Consider the changes in the world that these giants have witnessed.
Our quick stop in Prairie Creek Redwood State Park was serene and breathtaking and left us feeling excited to explore more.
Have you ever been to Northern California? What other places should we be sure not to miss? And can you spot @tremington187 in this photo? 🌲
Obi has been sitting in our driveway for quite some time, eager to be taken on to the road. She has gotten frequent attention over the last two weeks, but has not yet been out and about to venture through her new neighbourhood. She has been patiently waiting ever since @dutch_vans made sure she was in the absolute best condition. A new battery was installed, brake discs were replaced, new tires were installed, some minor technicalities were looked after. Nevertheless, sometimes something small slips through unnoticed.
Today, finally, she was allowed to stretch her legs. Unfortunately, she needed some help to be moved as h battery (already 🤭) seemed to be as low as the mileage we’ve put on the meter over the last two weeks.. The first guess is a current leakage somewhere seems to be the problem.
Fortunately, we’re an optimistic kind and rather see the glass as half full as opposed to empty. Everything that we'll cross now will not come to surprise us later when we actually depend on her.
I'm sure @dutch_vans will take excellent care of you, see you soon, Obi!
“Don’t get attached, I’m leaving in my bus soon.” I told him with certainty. I truly believed I could travel in an old vehicle with my son alone across America.. but really I was so scared, not only of this crazy idea but I didn’t want to leave him. I loved him. “I’m going with you” he said with even greater confidence. “If you’ll have me of course” he added humbly.
My single mother mission was shifting. I wasn’t sure if I was ready to embark on a partnership especially on such a grand journey I had been planning alone for years or even sharing the responsibilities of guiding my son along this sacred path.
Traveling alone is very introspective, a journey inwards. Observing the external while dissecting the internal. I had done that many times, but traveling with someone other than Noah, was new to me. When you travel with another you get to reflect each other’s love of the beauty that surrounds you and inside of you. The emotions and the moments all magnified as they move their way outward of the mind into each other’s hearts. Different perspectives united create greater integration of the whole. Today marks 365 days since we chose to share this beauty way together. Love you Compañero @alligatorboy
Whenever Lj and I saw photo opportunities while on the road, it was easy to keep driving toward our destination and think “there will be another”. It was hard to shake the mentality of just wanting to get to where we were sleeping for the night, but I am glad we stopped here :)

Like us, many critters seek out warmer weather during the cold winter months. In fact, birds aren’t the only ones who migrate south in the fall... monarch butterflies do as well! 🦋
You may have heard of the great monarch migration, where these delicate creatures travel around 3,000 miles from Canada down to Mexico. ☀️☀️
This trip is completed in only about 2 months, starting in September and ending in late October. This means they travel between 50 to 100 miles every day!
No wonder this little lady needed a nice, long rest. And what better place than on top of a fluffy, yellow sunflower? 🦋🌻
PSA: new blog post is going up TOMORROW! 😃
