Amrap at 210 for my 5th set from today. Realized while I was warming up that I left my belt at @mfswede ‘s after he made me put it on to take off 100lb plates that *someone* left on the leg press 🙄 thankfully there was a belt here that fit good enough to use. Also forgot how to squat on the first rep here but managed to redeem myself #5thset

By the time of this final pull, I had already reached my goal of a 1300 pound total and had secured 3rd place in my weight class. This deadlift was the icing on the cake, adding 11 additional pounds to the total I was originally aiming for. This was my 3rd PR of the day, closing out a 9/9 performance with 27 white lights.

I’m about to write about something you’re not going to want to admit, but we all need to hear: You’re not special. .

That’s right. I said it. 🙀 You’re not special. I’m not special. We’re all a bunch of average joes that sit right in the middle of the bell curve...and that’s okay! Social media is awesome. We get to see the best of the best, the outliers(which happens to be a great book-read it if you haven’t). Most of us have one thing that we’re pretty decent at, a few lucky ones have a few things they’re above average at, and about 1% truly excel at one or two tasks. You would never guess that looking at social media, though. Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, etc show us that everyone is exceptional and perfection is possible. What a load of crap 🙄 This idea leads to some hella entitled people, and guess what...it’s not just millennials! This notion that we’re all great has us trying to be perfect at everything we do. We’re not perfect. We’re not all geniuses with a ripped body, intact psyches, with enough energy and motivation to accomplish all of our goals by age 25. You know what’s cool about that, though? .

You’re not some anomaly with a special diagnosis stopping you from losing the weight. You’re not a special case where you can’t go into the gym and lift weight heavier than yesterday.  Your circumstances aren’t unique which means somewhere in the world someone is struggling with the same type of shit and still achieving their goals...which means you can, too! .

There are single moms making a good income, eating for her goals, making time for the gym, and giving her kids enough attention and love. There are cancer patients smiling and being active and loving life. There are people who have lost their homes and maybe even family members to fires, floods, and other horrific disasters that are working to help others still with a smile on their face. .

Where ever you are, whatever you’re struggling with you’re not alone. Others are overcoming the same obstacles, juggling similar issues. You can overcome anything, because you’re not special. You’re average and the average person is out there crushing goals right in the middle of the bell curve.

Here is the independent grenade incline skull crusher with two chains ~40lbs per hand. This is a phenomenal movement to gain synergy from the shoulder, elbow, to hand to create a stronger lockout potential in the benchpress, but also the benefit from strengthening the hands using the grenade attachment from @elitefts. With this type of movement, quality over everything just like everything else, but be sure to keep the movement as pure as possible to get the benefits from using the grenade.

Good reminder for myself that putting in the effort, being aware of what you’re doing every training session, and keeping the bigger picture in mind, every set and rep, it pays off.

It’s no secret that I was in a bad, broken place when I started training with Kyle. Before him, I was forced to dissolve a relationship with a trainer I could no longer trust only to be ghosted by his replacement, all just weeks before my second ever meet, Missouri State (USAPL).⁣

I was broken. I was defeated. I was moments away from quitting altogether.⁣
⁣
Then, a kind soul (@chelspears) introduced herself to me while I was training alone. After learning I was coach-less, she suggested I reach out to her trainer, Kyle.⁣ ⁣
He agreed to train me on the spot. He didn’t care that I had been discarded by not one, but two coaches. He didn’t care about my—let’s call it, difficult—reputation at the gym. Kyle cared that I had goals and that I was committed. And that’s all it took for him to take me on.⁣

I finally had a new coach! A coach who is dedicated. A coach who is loyal. A coach who is quite simply there. ⁣
⁣
Although he had told me up front that he would—understandably—not make my soon-approaching meet, to my surprise, when I arrived to compete at State, there was Kyle. He had cleared his schedule and showed up for me. And for the past year, he has never not shown up for me. ⁣
⁣
I don’t have a lot of male role models in my life, but Kyle is definitely one of them.⁣ ⁣
This man is one of the best fathers I’ve ever known. When he shows up to the gym, his positive spirit lights up the room. He judges no one, but make no mistake, he will also be the first to make fun of you and find reasons to laugh with you. He will also be your biggest supporter, your loudest cheerleader.⁣ ⁣
What you see is what you get with him, and in today’s world where most people share only the successful sides of themselves, his realness is a breath of fresh air. Simply put, this man makes the world a better place.⁣ ⁣
Kyle, I am beyond grateful to call you my coach, but even more than that, I’m grateful to call you my friend. Thanks for all that you do, and thank you for sticking by my side and getting me—us—to that World record.⁣

All 3 squat attempts from this weekend. I went 2 for 3 on squats with a 749, 782, and a miss at 804. Squats felt great in the warm up room. I hit my last sleeved squat at 617lbs and it flew up but during that squat I hurt my left knee pretty good. It started to get stiff on me and it was pretty painful to bend my knee. I didn't think anything of it but as you can see in my 1st squat my left knee had no stability and wasn't really working that well. I  adjusted on my 2nd by really turning my foot out so my knee could travel a little more freely. It seemed to help but still didn't feel very strong. I wanted an 800lbs squat or at least attempt it so that's what I did and just didn't have enough to finish the lift. Now it's time to figure out what is up with my knee and get it healthy again. @strength_union  @kayliebaby_ifbbpro @teamphoenixperformance

INPUT WANTED/NEEDED. 
At the meet my squats went better than expected (PR) but they aren’t close to where I want them. I PR’d my deadlift but my WR deadlift attempt came about 1/2 inch off the ground. I’m neither disappointed nor satisfied with my meet results and I’ve debated buying/making one of these for a while. I’m not expecting it to be magic, I want another worthwhile tool to work towards my goals. 
If you have or use one of these, could you please tell me if you like it and if you’d purchase one again after having used it? I’m tagging some gym owners/trainers/friends that I think have/use this but I’d love to hear everyone’s input if anyone wants to answer.

We are very proud of her hard work through her prep and on meet day, but most exciting of all, she now holds the deadlift World Record for her age/weight class with a 501lb pull to secure her win for the meet! •Overall I’m proud of how good bench felt. 231 felt really good but the bar moved forward off my chest and I had to correct it and I did but 🔴🔴🔴 which was extremely disappointing. I really wish I was able to train with meet equipment to really know my true strength and adjust to the equipment. Every time I bench at a competition my back cramps really bad because I can get so tight and set on the bench which I’m not used to. •

Joe had the type of day that most of us powerlifters wish we had on meet day. 3 world records - Squat, Deadlift, and Total. Missed the world record on squat with 2 reds on depth, but it moved fast considering it was gonna lock in a 51lb meet PR. Joe ended the day going 9/11 (4th attempts to up the bench and Deadlift world records that he beat on his 3rds). 25lb squat PR, 30lb bench PR, and a 34lb Deadlift PR.

Fun times at the meet in Vegas this weekend. You never know how your training will play out in a meet. I didn’t expect my squats to move and they did well enough to set a new PR and it was encouraging to have them feel good. I didn’t do what I wanted on bench but that’s how it goes sometimes. Got my opener, moved up in weight and they didn’t make it up to the rack when I pressed. Deadlifts felt great. I PR’d my third deadlift and was allowed to take a fourth as a World Record attempt. I didn’t set that record but I’m still happy I had a shot and a fourth. Wound up 7/10 in the 45-49 75kg class with the exact total I had at the Masters Cup while putting up three different lift numbers. I like consistency and all but but I believe I’ll climb up next time. Thanks to everyone that supported me, encouraged me, insulted me (🤪) and pushed me - I appreciate it.  Special thanks to those spotters too👍

All Supplemental Work today. We started with. 5/0/2 Tempo Squats which are a great way to build structural integrity of being able to had your position during a high duress situation. We chose doubles to keep a high intensity and performed 5 sets to accumulate a decent amount of volume

Next were SSB Squats. The purpose behind theae is to build Joseph's quads and hips. Keeping the hands high and cheat up will put majority of the leverage on to the quads and hips

Things are starting to fall in line for Joseph's training. 👊 All Supplemental Work today. We started with. 5/0/2 Tempo Squats which are a great way to build structural integrity of being able to had your position during a high duress situation. We chose doubles to keep a high intensity and performed 5 sets to accumulate a decent amount of volume 👊 Next were SSB Squats. The purpose behind theae is to build Joseph's quads and hips. Keeping the hands high and cheat up will put majority of the leverage on to the quads and hips 👊 And we finished we 3 sets of 13 Squats to add see conditioning and hypertrophy 👊 #squat  #bench  #deadlift  #powerlifting  #powerlifter  #strongman  #coaching  #AveSatanas  #uspa  #uspapower  #gym  #benchpress  #powerliftingmotivation  #unitedlifters

Bench felt like garbage yesterday but, since it’s just a deload week I’m not going to worry about it. Planning on competing a lot later than expected so, there’s plenty of time to get as strong as ever and make my next meet the best yet. Shoulder discomfort while training. Since I moved to Tampa my shoulder has not been feeling awesome. I felt it twinge while moving a dresser and it hasn't been the same since. So how to train shoulders? Simple, use eccentric load. Using the #trx I can focus my attention on the eccentric portion of the movement. Then use my legs to drive the concentric part of the exercise where I have some discomfort. I can work all three heads of the deltoid and traps just by adjusting my hand placement. Great pump and a good finisher to bench day. We have 5 areas for full body #trxworkout here @gorillabench . Just saying🤗
