Going to be doing some small oils on wood canvases, instantly #readytohang . Scene from the top of a small mountain cliff I hiked past #quebeccity . 10"x10", needs a few more hours, working on this on stream.
Lunchtime sketch 🥪🍜 I’ve posted my first video on IGTV of how I’m sketching my lunch. Thanks to my friend @helen.barmina for helping taking this video 🎥
#oladyhemp_foodsketch#oladyhemp_urbansketch
From the time I was 13, I set my sights on being an architect. I took drafting classes as soon as they were available and learned to draw a one point perspective. 10 years later I graduated with a 5 year bachelor of architecture degree and did my best to be the architect that 13 year old Mike dreamed of being.
Architecture took me to commercial shopping centers and offices all over the country. But I found myself turning 30 a long way off from where I started. So I decided I didn’t need a desk or a title to draw buildings and started to fill sketchbooks with the things I wanted to draw. I began to build furniture late into the night and soon I was building a tiny home in the back of a van. Now, I’m 35 and have realized that being an architect is a broad definition and is just a springboard into a sea of design.
Recently, I met Brian (@zenboxdesign) who jumped off that same springboard and landed in an entrepreneurial business converting garages and ancillary spaces near Portland into well appointed living spaces. He has encouraged me to build more, take more risks and push myself as a designer and “architect”.
This former garage is now an industrial style, one bedroom pad that surpasses the house it’s attached to and become the coolest house on the block.
Page 13: Food Timeline
Food timeline from Thailand till the end of my summer. Only foods that provided a new, and pleasing experience. Durian did not make it. I felt that durian was conflicted between being a fruit, and garlic.
And no, I didn’t eat a monk. I ate with the monks. In Thailand monks aren’t allowed to buy their own food. The community chooses food for them. They must eat everything from one bowl to show their detachment from desire.
The timeline goes from eating home cooked meals with @duairak to the foods in Taiwan with friends from @firsthosteltaipei. To eating the spiciest ramen in Japan that hurt everywhere but my mouth. and the goods I brought up Mount Fuji. To the Korean barbecue I had with my childhood friend group. To eating with my grandparents who was visiting the US. To eating Spanish food with highschool friends and in the same day @eatalyboston. And so much more. Peeps tagged at the meal. @stevechoww
And wish I could eat with @x0nny. I ate with @sarah_bear318 and @newelldanny at the top.
And nick Turgiss and Stephen macomber who I know don’t have instagrams
Here’s a new original that you can now find at @duluthcoffee! Grab yourself a delicious drink and check out some of my other paintings!
