Another work bathroom selfie. This pattern was originally a mash up of a @cashmerette #uptondress and a @stylearc tulip dress but its had so many iterations it's really it's own beastie now. A version of this dress pattern was expertly fitted by the amazing @susankhalje . I love it so much. Fabric is a mystery tencel blend I got at the @morrisonclothing fabric sale. Brooch from @erstwilder #vicparksewcialists
The best of a bad lot of photos of me (@cashmerette #uptondress in Cotton+Steel Menagerie print) and Sewing Helper (@bellasunshinedesigns #vintagegracedress in various things from @pitttrading). Getting SH to pose is very difficult 😒
This was at my cousin's wedding yesterday, which they had in their garden in the Southern Highlands, which is really pretty (lots of lavender and pretty flowering things). There were frogs in the pond too (SH was very excited about this, as well as being excited about the trampoline and treehouse.)
An associated relative liked my dress and asked my mum if it was Gorman 😂😂 #winning
#bpsewvember Day 26: Organisation?
I’m always the person at the fabric counter with the huge pile of fabric bolts, asking for seemingly random lengths of each bolt - that’s because l only buy fabric that I can ‘see’ being a particular garment and buy the amount of fabric required for that garment. Once it’s washed the fabric is ironed and folded and stored in large zip lock bags with an index card that says what garment the fabric is for - these are pretty much all destined to be Upton Dresses 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️
Handstitching and I are not the best of friends, but I am being #virtuous . (Also there are board games being played in my sewing room-I mean the dining room, in respect of which I am being terribly antisocial and opting out 😳)
Unpicked that damn zip and fixed it, then sewed the stupid thing back in, and the top of the zip looks better this time anyway, so suck it, Birch, you did not ruin my pretty dress 😠😠.
Subtlety is the name of the game with this diamond jacquard. From afar, it looks like a slight gray pattern, but up close, little jewel dots of blue brighten up the entire fabric. Turned into a stunning #uptondress from @cashmerette, it’ll become your go-to party dress when you want something beyond the little black dress.
Who says you can’t wear florals when it’s cold out?
This bright, bold, large scale floral is great all year round. Available now in our Curvy Box so you can make a stunning #uptondress from @cashmerette that you’ll want to wear to every fancy occasion.
Selfies are *hard*. Here's the best one of a bad bunch...
New #uptondress from @cashmerette out of 2m of @jos_proust grevillea fabric from @hansenprintandtex.
Had a wedding to go to this afternoon, and managed to finish this off last night. I'm much happier with the fit in this iteration, although I completely forgot to do anything interesting with the neckline, and I think the armsyces are still a little too high? It was my best invisible zipper insertion *ever* - didn't even have to redo it once! The inside is a bit of a thready mess but nobody sees it except me so 🤷
Have you heard of the sewing boxes by @needlesharpny ? They’re a subscription service (or by-the-box) that contain a pattern and the fabric you need to make a new garment... and now there’s a Curvy Box! The latest box contains our very own #UptonDress pattern and a choice of three fabrics to make a gorgeous special occasion dress.
It's PARTY TIME!! 🎉We've launched our new Curvy Box and we couldn't be more excited! And we are celebrating this with four fabulous party dress patterns 👗that will be perfect for the next few month's festivities. Head to the blog to read about the patterns and the fabrics, then get yours today!
(Clockwise from top left): #soielsiedress from @sewoveritlondon, #uptondress from @cashmerette, #belladonedress from @deer_and_doe_patterns and #macarondress from @colettepatterns
Digital print mesh overlay on Upton bodice. Such a fab pattern and such a novelty to not have to do an FBA. Omitted back zip. Made a full circle skirt. Used sleeve expansion pack to trace cap to fit armscye nicely, then measured bicep and length to achieve shape of sleeve. Comfy all day at a beautiful cousin’s @charmedwench fabulous wedding.
Redoing my black wool #uptondress bodice because I managed to make the bust too big somehow?? It was wearable but not great, so I've been through a number of different pattern variations and have settled on princess seams from the armscye. Will see how that goes.
And season 3 of #lucifer is finally on Australian Netflix 😈
#sewphotohop - day 29.refashion or scrapbuster. Sometimes when a fabric speaks to you and it has another form, it just has to be done. These dresses were both originally duvet covers. There's so much fabric in a duvet cover too. The one on the right is a Cashmerette Upton Dress and the one on the left, a Smyly Lisa Dress.
In progress reversible bodice to wear to Renaissance Faires! The pattern started as the @cashmerette #uptondress . I removed the darts (see my earlier post idk if I can describe how I did it), made a muslin, and decided to add 4" of length so it hit at my natural waist. You can see the boned interlining if you swipe right. I'm planning a blog post on this (yes, I'm starting a blog!) since there's way too much to say and frankly, too many mistakes to talk about on Instagram.
At this point, the boned interlining is hand-basted to the green herringbone flannel side. I'll baste together the other side (I intend it to be reversible so there's not really a "right side") then sew them together using the same method as the Upton. I don't have much time for sewing right now since my classes started last week, but oddly that means I've been doing *more* sewing! Just in bits and pieces rather than marathon sessions. I'll share more as it comes along.
Day two of #SewPhotoHop ! I started a new project today, the @cashmerette #UptonDress with the cap sleep expansion. I’m also making the #BinskisStudio#PicnicPerfectLunchTote over and over again. Biggest problem right now is that I don’t want to wash all my fabrics because the laundromat downstairs will be very busy. :< and my apartment is the perfect temperature and outside is not. :<

#sewphotohop2018 day 1: Hey, my name is Morven and I've been sewing for about 9 years now. When I'm not sewing, I'm creating stuff by other means, and at work, in a museum, I mostly do the same, or guide people through exhibitions and similar. I think it's the third time I'm taking part in the #sewphotohop and it's always fun and interesting to see what the sewing community is up to. Here you can see me on the beach in Casablanca wearing an #uptondress made out of fabric from Morocco, a bag made from Liberty London fabric and I seem to have obtained a halo in this pic. Why not?!?!
#makenine update: I have managed to make three of the planned patterns. I successfully made #amesjeans and I made an #uptondress both from #cashmerette . I also made the #dartmouthtop but I didn't like it. Nothing wrong with the pattern, it just wasn't "me". I bought a swimming costume so that is now ditched. I currently have changed my mind about the #tillyandthebuttons#cleodress and might stick with the one I have. I have made other things in between. Am still hoping to make at least 5 off my list!
The Rescue Dress is finished. For a while I wasn’t sure it was going to get finished, but I persisted, and we’ll see how much wear it gets. .
It’s inspired by the Laneway Dress from @jenniferlaurenhandmade but in the end it’s an Emery Dress bodice, with the Laneway neckline detail, and has used the gored skirt from the Upton Dress. True frankenpattern...
I’m going to forewarn all of you that I only joined Instagram so that I’d have a way of documenting all my “me made stuff”. So, feel free to unfollow me if you’re not interested! This is me out for a walk today while sporting my #uptondress and #blackwoodcardigan
Finally got to spend some time with Phryne today, and I think I may have managed to rescue this dress. 👗
I played a bit of pattern tetris with the extra piece of this fabric that I happened to find in my stash, and have replaced the a-line skirt on this Laneway Dress with the gored skirt from the Upton Dress and I’m so much happier with how it looks on.
I think the only thing on this dress that’ll end up being from the Laneway Dress will be the unique neckline detail, but that was the bit I loved about it from the start 💁🏼♀️
The Upton Dress is a great pattern for your funnest fabrics!
Another recent #memade , @cashmerette #UptonDress in a super fun organic double gauze from @birchfabrics. With bonus throwback Saltwater Sandals. #cscmakes#curvysewing#sewcialists
I didn't want to line this Upton because the fabric is already pretty thick- it's a cotton sateen. So, I decided to learn something, like attaching a bias tape to the neckline and arm holes. I'm really trying to improve my sewing skills and making sure that the inside is as pretty as the outside. #cashmerette#uptondress#curvysewing#moodfabrics#sewalong#plussewing
Progress on the Cashmerette Upton! We have a skirt, although it took me longer than it should have, because I learned that you have to do French seams BEFORE sewing up the pieces of the skirt. Live and learn. Today: adding pockets, sewing the skirt together, and connecting the skirt to the bodice!
Cashmerette Upton coming along nicely! I'm so happy that Jenny posted a sewalong with this pattern. I'm finding it so much easier to follow than the printed directions. #cashmerette#uptondress#curvysewing
