COFFEE IN KENYA...I had the unusual happenstance to have had a bath in Jomo Kenyatta's bathtub in an area called KIAMBU NE of Nairobi. These pics are from his coffee estate where I stayed when I first lived in Kenya.
The bathtub was dark green and unusually long, about 1/3 longer than a normal tub which of course I enquired of the next morning to my host. Jomo had had the tub imported because he was very tall and liked to have long soaks after all his Mau Mau activism + uprisings to liberate Kenyans from British rule
Coffee and tea grow exceptionally well in the high altitude terroir of the Kenya highlands which is 5-7000 feet above sea level. It is commonly known to be the 'best climate in the world' to live which it was. No mosquitos, cool and rainy at night warm and sunny most days + affordable plant food at the roadside
Pole pole...we can change the world one plant meal @ a time xo
“I’ve been a misfit my whole life. An overdeveloped, tall, and opinionated floater, I was constantly told to sit down and shut up. And I did, because standing out — literally and figuratively — is really painful when you’re young and just want to get some semblance of who you are in the world. But the older I got, the more it felt like I was crawling out of my skin anytime I felt myself trying to conform. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Modern social media culture has taken adolescent insecurity one step further. It’s kind of shocking, terrifying even, how unoriginal Millennials can be — in our fashion choices, our opinions, our aspirations. We’re all exposed to the same screens and influences, and everyone’s been conditioned to simply want Dua Lipa abs and photo editing skills. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So, it’s funny. All these years later, my differences are actually the things that have gotten me what I always wanted out of life: acceptance, connection, understanding. I built a career around honesty, imperfection, pushing the envelope, and being someone who does and says things others are perhaps afraid, or don’t know how, to. Some people don’t like it, but honestly, fuck em. I spent too long worrying about that. The way I see it, if I can help a handful of other young people to love themselves, I did what I came here to do...which is to turn pain into something beautiful.”
