Since I was born and raised in Michigan, I thought it’d be a good idea to write about this post. I know it’s a meme meant to be all fun and games but this reminded me of another issue with the university and race that I’d like to talk about from personal experience. For those of you who don’t know, the University of Michigan is a GREAT school to get into, but it is very hard to be accepted (28% acceptance rate). Since it’s a public university, it receives funding from the government, and therefore has to adhere to the POC quotas set in place. I have had cousins, friends, aunts, uncles, etc all apply to UofM, but have were all rejected despite their outstanding (and I mean outstanding) transcripts - why? Because they’re white. Despite being better than the vast majority of students in the state, they got rejected because UofM had to fill their quotas for people of color. It’s a very, very sad thing to see people who work so hard all throughout high school to get into such a great school only to get rejected because of their race. It’s discriminatory. For this professor to say that the green movement is too white while UofM actively discriminates against worthy white students as it is is appalling. While I know this is not the fault of UofM, this still happens regularly. It needs to change. A person shouldn’t get into a school with a worse transcript than someone else simply because they’re black. -Kaylin #buildthatwall#prolife#2ndamendment#trump2020#trump#immigration#republican#libertarian#rightwing#uofm#universityofmichigan#poc#pocquotas#college#university#discrimination
Museum exploring with @l.murph . As well as being a great friend, Laura is a brilliant engineer working to improve the world of disability design. Thanks for visiting this weekend, always teaching me new perspectives, and bringing snacks from Michigan 💛💙
It’s certainly not an intense workout in the gym, but gardening and landscaping does require a moderate amount of exercise. Gardening and landscaping are not high intensity workouts, essentially you have to be active for at least 30 minutes for there to be any benefits.
This includes anything from digging holes, raking, kneeling and standing repetitively and of course lifting all types of equipment or bags for hours on end. When this is happening, we are talking about time increase blood flow and heart rate while also working the muscles and increasing range of motion.
On this day, I definitely got my fair share of exercise plus more. The temperature outside was fairly high 90's and my back was beginning to tighten up. Not to mention I just literally finished a 2 hour leg session on top of an hour and a half of yard work.
So just as lifting weights or doing a 3 mile run can injure your body, the twisting, turning, bending and digging up of 150lb bush roots can also cause injury if your body is unprepared. So the beautiful thing about being older is knowing when enough is enough. I pulled two of those son's of bitches out the ground and tapped out and got my neighbor Brian @bman1791 to help expedite the process. ☆FINAL NOTE☆
To prevent unnecessary strain and pain when doing yard work remember to do some basic stretching of the shoulders, hamstrings, quadriceps and calves. And remember to bend at the knees, not the waist, as you pick up things.
“As a food entrepreneur, the Pilot Plant was a holy grail to me,” Aleh said. “There’s such a large amount of equipment sitting in one location. I was astonished by the fact that whenever I asked, ‘Do we have this?’ the answer was ‘Sure.’” @UMNresearch⠀
