I'm teetering on a fine line between mild discontent and pure bliss at having no upcoming races or life goals of any kind.
I'm not recovered from my Squamish attempt... which is fine. I'm burnt out from the training and even if I was physically ready, I'm mentally not. I'm enjoying *gasp* actually working out in the evening, making time for friends and not being tied to one perfect sleep schedule or 430am wake ups in any way.
I'm thinking about *maybe* my next big race being a triathlon (and debating getting a custom bike frame finally made... how does one do this?). Or maybe my trail stoke will come back in 2 weeks and I'll move on from that idea and sign up for my next ultra instead.
For now, I'm enjoying short road runs for the first time in a long time and wondering what else I might get up to this winter. .
So there you have it. All the swirl in my brain tonight as I ran around the seawall and visited "The Big Pineapple" for the first time in a long time (my personal name for it). .
“A” race for 2018 in 7 weeks. Dead Horse 50 mile trail Ultra on 11/17. Excited to head back down south to cap off my first full year of running. This has been on the schedule for months. When Dead Horse comes around, it will be my 14th race this year and my 5th time going an ultramarathon distance (50K Jan, 50 Miler Mar, 40 miles Jul and 28 miler Jul). When Sage first started training with Get Bent we talked quite a bit about expectations and what it was going to take to fulfill them. Although in the beginning one of Sage’s goals was to lose weight, we didn’t focus on counting calories or doing excessive cardio. In fact, we never did. Instead, we focused on lifting weights and building a healthy relationship with eating and rest. Learning to think of food as medicine and as fuel to get stronger, eating became something to look forward as opposed to feeling bad about it. Over the course of a year, Sage has made quite the journey, not just behind the barbell and on the trail, but as a person in general and I feel privileged to have been a part of it. From 36% BFP to 16% BFP, 40 lbs down, and painful to pain free, I couldn’t be happier for you Sage. I can’t wait to see you crush your first ultra marathon!
Fun fact: When we first began working together, I was still working out of a globo gym. After we talked about her goals during our first session, I talked about my goals and one of them was to open my own gym. She probably thought I was maybe being a little ambitious, but exactly one year later, Sage and I both celebrated our goals together at the grand opening party of Get Bent. @sageweaver 🎥: @dgooodz
