This #MedalMonday means a lot to me. Last year I had plans on getting my 2X Trifecta, and in August 2017 I was at my local gym playing@on the monkey bars, made a swing and a huge leap, and completely missed the bar, landing incorrectly on my foot, breaking my tibia and fibula, and dislocated my ankle. I’ve struggled pretty hard with training and nutrition this year, but knew I wanted to get it this year. Fast forward to this year, I pulled my groin 2 weeks ago in Conyers and failed a lot of obstacles. Talk about mental block. So this past weekend,I went into this race just wanting to get it. The goal was to just finish, no matter how long it took me, and I did just that. I got monkey bars, rig, bender, and stairway to Sparta, and made it half way in twister (I failed a lot in Conyers); Olympus and spear throw are still not my best friends. 😂 I kept telling Scott @iamaspartanpodcast that I was so glad he was running the race with me, because I know he was hurting so bad because he crushed that Course in the #UltraBeast the day before (he took 3rd place). O’m more that blessed to have him as my Best Friend and boyfriend. I hope those who read this and struggle in their races know they can do it. NO MATTER WHAT! A good friend told me back in April at the New Jersey Beast, “just keep moving”, and I think about that every time I start fighting with myself mentally. #spartan40gogogo#spartanstrong#whyirace#girlsofspartan#womenofspartan#Beast#anklebreakssuckass#justkeepswimming#justkeepmoving
I challenge my self physically and Mentally and I couldn't be happier, this might be the hardest event for me,Freezing temperature, lots of water crossing 30 miles over 60 obstacles, this beautiful buckle was well earned.

Age 51 earn that #buckle
Thanks to @rocktapedoc
For his time to tape my knees and feet as am suffering with Achilles tendon and knees pain. And thanks to my friends @marie_walton_7 and Kevin as we running together we pushed and cheered each other.
🤔🤣 please talk me outta this goal! I just read one post... “Day one training for the ultra 7 hours, 21 mike run burpees” blah blah .... who has 7 hours a day to train?! I don’t have that much time for sleep #amish#spartan#spartantraining#ultrabeast
What an incredible two-week finish to the racing season! After CG Games last week, I had only one race left on the 2018 calendar, but I knew it’d be the longest and hardest of the year.
My only goal for the Spartan Carolinas Ultra Beast was to just complete the 30 miles of technical terrain, 60 obstacles and 8 heavy carries.
Obstacles covered in ice led to 60 early penalty burpees, but after that I channeled my inner Forrest Gump and just kept on running and running, knocking out every obstacle in my way.
I don’t consider myself a longer distance runner at all, but yesterday my legs stayed strong and my mind sharp. I’m still shocked that my body held together through all of it, and somehow just shy of six hours later, I finished the Ultra Beast as the #1 Masters athlete and 5th overall!
I’m so proud of all the Spartans that also conquered the Ultra Beast or the Beast yesterday, and all those that earned their Trifectas for the year. And I’m super proud of Karen for committing to and conquering the Ultra Beast too, and setting herself up for a fierce 2019 season with such a strong finish!
53kms & 60 obstacles in under 10 hrs... to top it off Ben came second in his age group!! Just an absolute machine this kid... I watched him complete this last year (less 10kms and crawling to the finish line) and was already amazed... but to see the training he has put in since then really shine through yesterday and absolutely scoot to the finish... I couldn’t be more impressed or proud of the little bro. All whilst raising money and awareness for the @patcroninfoundation

WE DID IT!
Yesterday me and Jim Huber @themutant_19 finished a #spartanultrabeast fittingly in #spartansburg South Carolina. The #Ultrabeast is the longest race in the #spartan family of races with 30 miles and 60+ obstacles! We finished the race way faster than I anticipated at 8 hours and 23 minutes.
When we started running these #ocr races a few years ago we started with the Spartan Sprints which are 3-5 miles and 20+ obstacles. When we were running those we would Look at the ultra runners and I couldn’t imagine ever being able to run those distances and yet with some hard work, discipline, self belief, and a great teammate WE did it.
Honestly running the race is one thing but to me who you run it with and share the experience, pain, and joy with is even more important and meaningful and I couldn’t ask for a better person to run these with than my friend, mentor, and training partner Jim. He has pushed and encouraged me on and off the course over the years and is an exceptional athlete I can only try and hang with. His disciple, drive, and grit are inspiring to me.
Thank you also to my wife @violinistwhofoundjoy for encouraging me and giving me the long hours to train with no complaint.
One thing I will never forget from the race is the other runners not running the Ultra telling us we were inspiring to them which I never would have anticipated. Goes to show that your hard work can inspire others to aim higher, try harder, and achieve their goals as well.
Not sure what the next goal is yet but this is one to savor for awhile. 🏃
Since the day i recieved my confirmation email, my nerves about this race had me on the edge. Several times i wanted to just email spartan race and change my entry to a plan beast race. Seeing the cut off times, the cold temperatures and the elevation change (I'm floridian), had me freaking out. Standing in the starting corral and listening to the rules I didn't think I was ready......then we went off. First lap had me all over the place, going strong then feeling destroyed all the way to my transition station, refueled, ate, rehydrated and fresh supplies and I was off again. .
2nd lap off again feeling good. Mile 18 my pace was slow and my legs hated me. But I still kept pushing. So many times after that I wanted to quit, seen a medic cart driving by and forced myself to look away from them and kept going. Beast runners passing me and and saying good job ultras, keep going, don't stop. My friend @funky_cold_ocr with some weird force of comical energy kept me laugh and my mind distracted from the pain in my legs and back. .
Finally the cut off point i was most worried about. Water station 5, we had to be at this station by 5pm or we would have been taken off the course and recieve a DNF and sitting there was 2 spartan race employees in trucks. I asked the volunteer the time and she said 3:30pm........I was in shock. Gave me a little extra boost in myself to push on harder. The last 2 miles I was a wreck, legs sore. Ankles screaming, back hurting and body was getting colder. Then at last the finally 4 obtalces, A frame, dunk wall, slip wall and fire jump. I freaking made it. For my medal and made my way down to transition to collect my things, I unwrapped my ultra medal and I lost it. All of this nerve racking emotions over the last few weeks and I actually finished the race. My whole crew made it. (Different times of course) .
I DID IT! Im an ULTRA BEAST! 30 miles, 68 obstacles, 6800 ft of elevation change & my official time was 9:56:42! After setting a personal goal of no more than 12 hrs I am beyond ecstatic! Completing an Ultra is not only a test of physical strength and endurance but mentally as well. At times I had to dig deep and find the strength to go on but I knew there was no turning back! Seeing all those faces of my SXF family and getting hugs from them on the second lap kept me in good spirits! They all completed their trifectas and I couldn’t be prouder of them! This was such an amazing experience that I am grateful for! Proud to bring this buckle back home to SXF and to be the first female to do so in our area! Oh, and I got my double trifecta! #AROO#iamspartan#ultra#ultrabeast#ocr#ocrchick#sxf#spartanxtremefit#prettygritty#spartan#spartanrace#ididit#accomplishtheimpossible#spartanburg#spartanburgultra
Sunday showed more than ever the love, friendship and respect our Lonedog community has for one and another.
This is the moment one of our coaches Chris Forrest (@cforrestpt) would hear he would just miss the cut off for the last leg of the Spartan Ultra Beast. (52km Obstacle Race)
Karyn Williams (@kittenyagrey) had also missed her transition time by less than 4mins and her quest ended.
Even though Chris came down the mountain at a blistering pace, he unfortunately missed the time limit and was not allowed to continue.
By this time, the Ultra Beast had claimed 125 DNF’s of the 261 starters which lets you know how tough the conditions were on the day.
Here we see David Phegan after already completing the Trifecta (7km, 14km and 21km) and Kaz (30kms of Ultra Beats) embracing Chris with the news that his race was being stopped.
This moment captures the show of love and respect that our team has for one another.
We are so proud of all of our Lonedog family who competed over the weekend ranging through all levels from the 7km Sprint, 14km Super, 21km Beast, Trifecta & this 52km Ultra Beast.
Congratulations to all. We are blessed to be surrounded by this community.

First ever Ultra Beast, third place finish (despite 210 burpees), below freezing at the start, and ice (first lap) then mud (second lap) on all the obstacles.
Bummed about not being able to chase another podium on Sunday, but I had to listen to my body.
If I tried to explain what this was like, it'd sound like a lot of gibberish. Ha! I have only ran 20 miles one other time in my life. Still, my pace, when I could run, was just over a 10 min/mile pace.
I have the most supportive, super group of people in my OCR family!
I led for a little while, but around mile 6 my legs starting hurting. I'm still not sure what happened, but I kept pushing. I got passed in mile 22, and that put me in 3rd place. The pain was so much that I was afraid my legs would give out. I've never run more than a Beast distance, but I'll have to figure out what made me hurt so early in the race. I didn't cramp. Just hurt.
Thank you @gritarmy for making a pair of socks that I could wear for over 6 hours with no bunching, no blisters, and no holes!
Food was so important before, during, and after this race, and I nibbled on @chomps.
As always, my @buffyourbody traveled with me. Hurt so good after the race, but super important for recovery!
My @newf_fitness is currently holding ALL of my race stuff, and then some. I'll never love another bag as much as this one. Is it okay to love a bag?
If you may remember, I mentioned covering some Ultra race prep in the late summer but the content never made the page. Honestly, I was scared of this race. I didn’t want to put myself out there then fall flat on my face. I learned some stuff from that and I’m glad to say I made it anyway. My performance wasn’t great but considering the other life and fitness goals I was balancing, it was a decent performance. I’ll be more transparent with any event prep in the future. - Paul
So many proud moments today. Sidelined with injury last year, i completed a goal earning my #spartantrifecta . #achillescomeback came with with cramping, but I pushed through and #jumped the fire with @warriortech_kim. But the proudest moments came from watching our members and those that have stopped into @warriortechocr achieve greatness today. #warriortechfamily (Not pictured: @arm_enthusiast @ocr_punisher @sergdogg99 @jkitfit achieved #ultrabeast status. Congrats to @spartanstroud and @brinnaebent on their Ultra Beast podium finishes.) #papercutninja#ninjagymowner
What a wonderful way to close out the OCR race season for the year - with my first Ultra Beast and I earned the coveted buckle! I've graduated to a new level of insanity 😁 The spartan community made the Ultras feel so special and encouraged us to go to the front of the obstacle lines.
Thank you to my man, @spartanstroud, for the good advice to get out of my head during the race and to help others instead of focusing on my own pain. He really is amazing and, not surprisingly, pulled off another first place effortlessly today 🥇! To go from winning a national power/strength/speed competition last weekend to a complete endurance event is the epitome of a hybrid, perfect athlete.
Aww man major s/o to my lil sis she’s a #UltraBeast just completed her 3rd spartan race in 3 months but this one was something special something I haven’t even accomplished yet 13.25 miles and 35 different obstacles!!! Wet , muddy, in winter temperatures!!!!! I SALUTE YOU BABY GIRL @joyfulmiles !!!! Please scroll first then please give her her some love like please this is an incredible accomplishment #SpartanRace
This experience was INSANE. plz read👇🏼
Crazy highs: being in first for majority of the first 15 mile lap, starting the second lap in first and getting this nifty “Leader” tank, and crushing some hard obstacles Ive never completed before.
Crazy Lows: Failing enough ice covered obstacles to constitute 300+ burpees, getting delirious and almost being pulled off the course multiple times for stumbling around on the brink of blacking out, thus falling back to 6th place 😂🤷🏻♀️. And Crazy Love: When I was visibly loosing my marbles, endless fellow racers in other heats stopped and asked if I was okay, called for help, and offered me their own drinks and food. After a volunteer had me stop and rest a bit (making me drink a whole water bottle), a stranger turned friend walked with me till some food kicked in, and then wished me good luck as I ran ahead to finish. Choking up thinking about it all 😭. Any person I passed that saw my Ultra tank yelled encouragement and kept me going. The @spartanrace community is amazing.
Even though this Ultra Spartan may have been the closest to death I’ve ever been 😂 I am so happy I did it and finished 6th with the Elites!! Next time I’ll be more prepared with fuel and maybe keep my lead 😂😭🤞🏻 Ps. Stabbed my thumb on barbed wire, it’s okay👌🏼 #imnotcryingyourecrying#ultrabeast#spartanrace#spartanelites#feelingthelove#spartanwomen
