2,977 people were needlessly taken away in the 9/11 attacks, and this guy Welles Crowther is just one of them. After visiting I found out that this incredible guy was responsible for saving 18 lives during the attack, and became known as the ‘man in the red bandana’ as a result of his rescue efforts. When the tower collapsed, he was still inside rescuing others. Never forget. This place is more haunting with each visit I make, so I’m so thankful to learn about the heroic nature of people from such a horrific day in history 😓💕 #twintowers#newyork#911#neverforget#groundzero#hero

~ taken six weeks ago on 17th May, this is my photo of the One World Trade Center, also known as the Freedom Tower.
The 9/11 Memorial and Museum is the most special and unique place, very haunting, very emotional, everything I saw there will stay with me forever, including the reflecting pools which are so beautiful and peaceful, the roses they place on the victims' names on their birthdates, the shoes and watches and other personal belongings salvaged from the debris, the missing person posters, the Ladder Company 3 fire truck damaged beyond repair, and a log of calls left on the answerphone of Ladder Company 3's Patrick 'Paddy' Brown asking if he was okay and to get in touch; he and the other firefighters who sped to the World Trade Center aboard that truck all perished when the North Tower collapsed at 10.28am, and his ashes are scattered in Central Park.
There is no doubt that a visit to this sacred site is harrowing. Nothing is sugar-coated and nor should it be, and perhaps certain people may find some content upsetting or offensive, but it is absolutely right that every detail of this atrocity, including information about the evil extremists who killed so many innocent people, is portrayed. Visitors tour the museum in silence and with tears in their eyes, hence the strategically placed boxes of tissues, because the impact this place has on you is profound.
That the memorial and museum exist after such catastrophic human tragedy, that they exist on the site of such devastation, is a worthwhile and important tribute to every life lost. It is important too that we never forget what happened on September 11th 2001, and I truly hope that the families and friends of all those who perished on that fateful day find some peace and comfort and hope for the future here 💖
