Wrote this post on Facebook earlier. Right now I’m dealing with a family Matter that is truly tragic (I won’t get into details). But it made me think of just how precious TIME is. Do not take one second for granted! You are always one incident away from your life being completely flipped upside down. You never know when’s going to be the last time you get to hug a loved one. You never know when will be the last time you hear someone’s voice... see someone’s smile... be in their presence. Always live every day as if it were your last. 24hrs to go!!! 🏃🏼🏃🏼🏃🏼 Cross country races usually involve a fair bit of short, sharp hill work and Cumbernauld is no exception. Working out how to get up the hills is only half the battle.... Here's some tips from VP @Duncan McKellar on conquering the downhill 👇
1️⃣ Resist the urge to lean back as this puts the brakes on, lean your upper body slightly forward and keep your weight above your contact point with the ground. Push your hips forward.
2️⃣ Try to land on your forefront, not your heels, and make use of the gripping power of your spikes.
3️⃣ Don't look directly down at your feet, pick a point 10-15 feet in front of you and trust your brain's amazing ability to work out where your feet should land.
4️⃣ Relax. Don't stiffen up your shoulders and arms as this will stifle your stride. Let your legs turn quickly under you - picture the Road Runner in the Wile E Coyote cartoons!
5️⃣ Attack the downhills - think of them as a time to put a little burst of speed in and use this speed off the bottom of the hill.
6️⃣ On particularly steep descents use a zig zag pattern to stay in control.
7️⃣ Practice the descents during your warm up - get out on the course and learn where they are and plan how you will run them.
