"Oh, really?" "Yes, really." Now that I'm home from #seattlefrocktails , I should probably share my dress for the evening! This is a @cashmerette #turnerdress in stretch poly velvet...much easier to sew that I was expecting. And Frocktails was great! It's fun to be allowed and encouraged to stare at the amazing creativity all around! #seattlesews#curvysewingcollective#cscmakes
This is my cosy cardi for the cosy cardi challenge organised by @amanda_isewalot and @thestitchsistersuk The sleeves and bodice were taken from the Cashmerette Turner Dress pattern but sized up from my normal size. I used knowledge gained from pattern testing the Aknikki cardigan and based it on the look of the Jenna cardi. It was my first time using snaps - great fun! The beautiful ponte roma was from Stoff & Stil. I'm very happy with my finished cardi ☺
The impossible has happened. I, @syreetabriana, wore a crop top. In PUBLIC. And 0.0% of the world cared. 😆
You see, I’d always figured such garments were for those who lacked my magnificent fleshiness. I can’t remember ever seeing one in size Boobylicious and, obviously, nice southern girls wouldn’t be caught dead etc etc.
But the pattern cover of #s8609 looked so cute, I stitched one up for lounging at home.
However, when faced with 80* heat and 95% humidity and your freshly sewn cropper is the only clean sleeveless option, you inhale deeply, don your top, check your pockets for any final f🤬s to give, and strut out the door...
To crop top or not to crop top?, that is my question to you.
I paired this with a swishy #Cashmerettepatterns#turnerdress skirt I made from an awesome Liverpool knit from @lafinchfabrics
I actually already took the ruffle sleeve off because it wasn’t working for me, but this was me trying to be on trend and seeking to discover the appropriate sleeve length for a #turnerdress#sewinghack .
I might attempt this again but it didn’t seem to be working for this fabric and winter temps/cardigan possibilities. I also modified the neckline to be higher and rounded. .
#sewphotohop Day 7: texture/color
While I’m certainly not one to turn down a fun or interesting texture, I’m definitely a COLOR girl at heart. As evidenced by this neon floral fabric from @califabrics that I loved so much I had to make TWO garments out of it: a #turnerdress and #hudsonpants They’re two of my most frequently worn items. (ETA I actually wore this Turner Dress to work today and I think it’s my most complimented make to date)
#sewphotohop Day 7 - Texture or colour. I love a soft fabric that's smooth to the touch and I also love colour, so why choose between the two? This is my blue velvet Turner Dress made last year - a perfect combination of colour and texture.
#sewphotohop Day 4 - signature look. Comfortable and colourful. I love a comfy dress, either jersey or woven with plenty of ease. I'm drawn to colourful fabrics either florals, spots or stripes. Here I am in my two favourite secret pyjama dresses - a Cashmerette Turner Dress and a Colette Moneta Dress.
For #sewphotohop Day 4 I really could have just reposted the collage from yesterday because my “signature look,” if I have one, is probably knit dresses in a fun print with pockets. But before I decided to occasionally tear myself away from bae and try other patterns, the @cashmerette #turnerdress was my It Dress. Still is, really, and I view every new fabric or potential fabric purchase through the Turner Dress lens before deciding what to make with it. I think I’m up to 13ish now, with two more in the WIP pile and who knows how many “planned,” but here are ten for you to enjoy today.
It's that time of year again: #sewphotohop presented by @houseofpinheiro. I always meet such interesting people and find all kinds of inspiration. Thank you, Rachel!
Hi, I'm Lindsey and I live in Dallas. I'm a full-time history museum nerd, mom and wife, part-time cook, baker, reader, baseball fan, sewing enthusiast, Little League mom, not enough time for gardening, Lindy hop, travel or sleep as I'd like.
This is me last week, wearing my @cashmerette #turnerdress to the White House for a reception. I love that I got to wear a dress I made myself for such a memorable night!
Imitation is the highest form of flattery... AND you end up with an amazing dress!
One of the last perfect Sundays of summer and I spent it inside sewing 🙄 At least I have a new dress to show for it!
This is the #turnerdress from @cashmerette, inspired by the one @tworandomwordsblog shared a few months ago. I took some of the swing out of the skirt and added pockets, because pockets. The fabric for the top is from @make.and.mend and the fabric for the skirt is from @stylishfabric. I love how they look together especially with the belt! #sewing#handmadewardrobe#cashmerettepatterns#bostonsews#sewqueer
My first #sewover50 post , hi from cold wet Auckland! I took a weekend sewing workshop in 2014 and haven't really put my scissors (or my unpicker!😉) down since. So exciting to make things that fit my curves in colours and fabric I love❤ For dress week I have two favs , the first is my #lenoxshirtdress , the most complex pattern I'd made up to that point, including eleventy hundred buttonholes! The second is a #turnerdress , my first foray into sewing a dress in knit fabric. Neither perfect but both pleased me enormously. Now, pass me a glass of Chard & let's get busy🤗 #so50dresses @sewover50 #cashmerettepatterns#curvysewing
Hooray for finishing up long-standing WIPs! Well done!
Regrann from @threadmaker - I finally finished the #Turnerdress I started last summer! I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out #sewqueer - #regrann
This is my summer celebration #turnerdress by #cashmerettepatterns I saw this fabulous double brushed jersey knit print on super discount at @fabricmart (water stain on the back that you can’t see from the front) for $3.99/yard and snatched it up faster than cheetah could pounce on a limping gazelle. That means this dress cost less than $14 to make and I still have extra fabric. (I suppose I should amortize the cost of the pattern too...+$7=$21?)
My daughter loves to point to every fruit/treat on the dress and tell me what they are. Unfortunately, that usually leads to wanting a popsicle. 🍦
So anywho, I knew better but tried understitching the lining and totally stretched out the neckline. I’m not a perfectionist so carried on and I’ve learned my lesson/need to figure out how to reduce the tension on my presser foot. .
This is my second Turner and I love it. So comfy, and I love that depending on sleeve length and fabric weight it can work in all seasons. Only problem is I’m about to size down out of @cashmerette! And by problem I mean I’m happy but also sad, and I know I just need to learn how to size patterns down. Gah I’ll get over it. #sewingproblems#sewingwhilelosingweight .
When @gilliancrafts first announced the #sewjanellemonae challenge, I was SO excited and promptly screenshot dozens of photos of Janelle’s iconic style, coming up with loads and loads of ideas. I settled on three garments I wanted to make, but in the end only ended up executing this one. I basically just lengthened and narrowed the skirt of the #turnerdress and added a slit. I didn’t want it to touch the ground (ick — especially with that white) though it did end up a touch shorter than intended. Swipe for original inspo dress plus favorite up-close look — I SWORE I had googly eyes somewhere in my craft supplies, but alas, I was not able to find them. I LOVED this challenge, Gillian! Wish I’d gotten around to the other two garments!
New dress! Mystery fabric from the stash. (perhaps I got it from @joann_stores a few years ago?) I had intended to use the @curvysewingcollective tutorial that Jenny wrote for using a T-shirt pattern to make a swing top/dress, but at some point I realized I could graft the #turnerdress skirt onto the #concordtshirt bodice so now we have the Turncord. It’s not quite the same effect, but it’s suuuuuper comfy. My one regret is that I didn’t even think about pockets until about 15 minutes after I got to my training this morning. We’ll give it a couple more wears before deciding whether it’s worth busting out the seam ripper or not.
Mum, daughter AND doll? That’s next level matching!
Stahhhhhp. I may have gone overboard. However, since this may be the only Mother’s Day she’s into it, this shall be remembered as the Mother’s-Day-of-matchy-matchy, right down to her doll. This photo brought to you by @cashmerette #turnerdress (hacked slightly for sleeveless), @straightgrainpatterns #tinnydress , @dearstellafab pineapples in knit. (Doll pattern flew freehand from my shears and serger.) Orcas Island couldn’t be more beautiful. “Twirl, Mama! Our dresses are so twirly!”
#memademay under the wire! I’d wait for a better picture but it wouldn’t be May. This is the best pic I could get in my hotel room. I whipped up my first #cashmeretteturner#turnerdress this past weekend to wear to the conference I’m now at. I wore it all day: so comfy! I think all I changed was taking some width out of the back neckline. I also added a little mini skirt lining under the skirt to a bit more fabric to smooth my bumps and lumps. I didn’t have enough of my fabric to do a full skirt lining, but it worked out fine. #millennialsewing#imakemyownclothes#cscmakes#plussizesewing
A few #memademay reflections. I achieved my goals this month, I wore a different Me Made every day and I identified holes in my wardrobe. I have almost no bottoms! I need to work on pants, skirts, and more business upper layers (Morris blazer, I’m looking at you.) I also had quite the fit of productivity this month, in preparation for our upcoming trip I finished a #wikstentank WIP, a #coramtop and #coramdress in linen, three #turnerdress versions, and several #tinnydress including seersucker and pineapples! I know people are down on ‘fast sewing’ and feel mixed about #memademay but I really find seeing everyone else’s outfits so inspiring, it really helped me give my sew-jo a shot in the arm. Thank you to everyone who perseveres through it, I’m so grateful for this sewing community and I think you are all rockstars!
I’ve gone #turnerdress crazy! This is my third in a month (hello summer wardrobe!) because it’s just such a great pattern. Figure flattering and easy to make, there’s nothing not to love in a @cashmerette pattern. This fabric is an @artgalleryfabrics knit called Sweet Bubbles Sugar from @hawthornethreads, colorway pink and yellow with subtle metallics (see Exhibit C, also matches my rosebush.) I think Art Gallery knits are a great combo with the Turner, they have enough weight that the bodice doesn’t go shifting all over but the skirt still twirls (see Exhibit A.) I got a million compliments on this today, and my favorite was my daughter’s: “Mama, I love dis, did you make it? Can I have one?” #memademay#mmmay18#mmm18
#mmm18 day 25 remember my pattern matching? Did I show it to you? Well, this is the #turnerdress made up in a gorgeous fabric from @naturesfabrics that I originally won in a contest. Years later I made this @cashmerette turner dress. I ran out of fabric to fit all pieces whole on the yardage. Sooooooo... enter pattern matching at the side seam waist corners. My coworker said it looked like a cook design detail, which thrilled me. And I find I keep searching those topstitched seams for pockets! Lol! However, this *must* be modified at the armscye. In my infinite wisdom, I made the arm holes too tight and didn’t shave off some to make it end closer to the neck /body and away from the arm. After wearing all day, uff da!, I had red rings from the dang grip! The mesh panel in the back is my own design. And my jacket is the upcycled and adorned piece I bought from @28lindsaybrown
When you realize you need something new to wear to the honky tonk...cut a new sleeveless #turnerdress and be out the door a few hours later. Flippy and perfect for dancing in this bamboo knit (which I thiiiink I got @drygoodsdesign but I could be wrong.) Thanks @cashmerette for bringing this pattern of awesomeness to the world! (Photo cred @annaredmondstudio, I hope my friends can bear with me through the end of the month!) #memademay#mmm18#memademay2018
I made two @cashmerette dresses for my MIL without having her in the same country to measure her or try them on beforehand, and she received them today for her birthday and they fit! Such a relief! I had to grade between four sizes and was really not sure I was doing it right, but am very pleased. She said they are so comfy she doesn’t want to take them off, which is good enough for me. The left one is the #turnerdress in a viscose jersey from @stoffehemmers.de and the right one is the #rivermontdress in a heathered french terry from @stoffundso . #sewinggifts#handmadegifts#sewing#isew#memade#sewcialists#nähenistwiezaubernkönnen
At that point where there’s still so much to do but the end is so close and it’s just got me all spaced out, not knowing where to start or what to do next. So I started the day by making a list and throwing on this galaxy #turnerdress
Had one of those mornings when I didn’t want to wake up. Then I didn’t want to get up. Then I didn’t want to go to work. So I knew I need my best brightest favorite #turnerdress to put some bounce in my step and get me out the door. Selfie a la @nycbookwriter style because.
Stahhhhhp. I may have gone overboard. However, since this may be the only Mother’s Day she’s into it, this shall be remembered as the Mother’s-Day-of-matchy-matchy, right down to her doll. Black floral cotton jersey dresses and bathroom selfies for #MeMadeMay days 11 and 13. 11 is #cashmerettepatterns#turnerdress and 13 is #m7622 . How many demerits do I get for including an actual toilet in a bathroom selfie? I will strive to do better tomorrow. Now, coffee!
It doesn’t fit my dress form, but I finished a @cashmerette #turnerdress for my mother in law. It was fraught with problems from the beginning, starting with having to grade between 4 sizes, initially buying the wrong fabric, making a lot of silly mistakes and my machine acting up and eating some of the fabric. It is now done and I hope sincerely that it’ll fit her. I’m not used to fitting other people, and am not entirely trusting the measuring skills of her friend who did the measuring, but thankfully it’s stretchy! 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼#cashmerettepatterns#sewing#isew#sewistsofinstagram#sewingforfriends#handmadegifts
I’m so pleased I dug out this @cashmerette #turnerdress from my winter storage. It is pretty nippy in Cape Town today! I love the cut of this dress and it is just SO comfortable. I got this fabric at Arthur Bales and can’t remember who designed it but it does make me feel v classy, like a grown up lady. Agnes the cat didn’t even bother to change her outfit, but at least she matches my colour scheme today 😹 #mmmay18#sewing#sewcialists#memademay#cashmerettepatterns#cat#greycat#catsofinstagram
That color!!! 😍😍😍
Regrann from @melhalia - Job interview season is upon us. Response: a @cashmerette #turnerdress in a peacock ponte from @mulberrysilks. Looking good, getting paid. #sewqueer - #regrann
