Highlights of our trip to Tulum: floating in a crystal clear Cenote, eating ceviche and fresh fish on the beach looking over turquoise waters at Chamicos, the fresh fruit stands all over town, me getting overly excited to hold an iguana while pouring sweat from everywhere at the ruins, finding live music all over while enjoying 2 dollar beers or piña coladas, Safari. (One of the best meals I’ve ever had), wandering around the town finding places the community built together, one of the new 7 wonders of the world - Chichen Itza, watching locals drinking 2L coke bottles while eating their #cochinitapibil Tacos served on plastic wrapped plates at 7am at Taqueria Honorio 🤤(best tacos I’ve ever had), and Jacobs extreme excitement to see the game featured in “The Road to El Dorado” in person. #tulum is beautiful and I am excited for the day we can go back and do it all over again.

⚠️❗️Climate Change Post- This is the reality of Caribbean coast of Mexico along with a few other places in the Caribbean right now . There is currently a major sargassum seaweed problem happening and I think it’s important for future travellers to know about. I don’t want to discourage travel to these places as it is not their fault and I know they rely heavily on tourism to fuel their economy. After experiencing it myself I’ve realized there’s so much more to explore than just being beach side, hence our own Cenote tour of Mexico! We were lucky enough to have a positive head on our shoulders, rented a car and explored all the other great things the Yucatán has to offer. I do however think the hotels in the area need to be a lot more transparent about the reality of their coast line. Their carefully curated pages don’t show the truth. People, including ourselves, paid a lot of money to come down specifically to spend time on the beach and relax by the aqua blue waters of Tulum. I think travellers deserve to know what their heading into. Perhaps hotels could be open about this reality and offer discounts accordingly. We personally felt a little tricked as we noticed some hotel pages were posting old photos of their beach pretending it was taken that day. (We did have a wonderful stay at Hotelito Azul and would still recommend it to anyone). I also feel others should know our actions continue to hurt our planet. Try and do your part anyway you can. Long post short- be truthful, continue exploring and make the environment one of your priorities. #sargassum#sargassumseaweed#tulummexico#tulumbeach#climatechange#caribbean
