In the middle of tufa formation.... the lesser travelled tufa formation than Mono Lake is located in Pyramid lake, Nevada. It’s the largest remnant of ancient Lake Lahontan that covered much of northwestern Nevada at the end of the last ice age. Pyramid Lake was the deepest point in Lake Lahontan. Reading history of the Paiute War happened in 1860 in this place, western movies flashback in my mind.... though movies are far than reality of what happened back then. #tufa#tufarock#tufaformations#historyrocks

Our wodden trails that leads you to most pristine parts of Plitvice Lakes. Plitvice lakes are #unescoworldheritage due to #tufaformations . That is why wodden trails are created in some parts of the park - so they can take over pressure of visitors walking and tufa can remain untouched. If you are visiting us, please take care of this. Going of trails is strictly forbidden. By your every step on tufa, you are stopping the whole process of formation in that place for weeks. And it grows in average just 1 cm per year. It is a slow and fragile process so it is very important to follow rules and let nature do it's magic. And what a joy that we can be witness to it! ❤❤ #natureconservation#plitvicelakes#plitvicefullexperience#tufa#parkovihrvatske#parcsofcroatia
The shoreline of Mono Lake has unusual formations that are comprised of a variety of limestone called "Tufa". Tufa is formed at Mono Lake from highly mineralized water from underground water sources that rise up out of the lake floor. The water level has dropped exposing the formations. Mono lake is very salty because it has no outlet.
