How was your #nationaldaiquiriday ? Yes, I know it was yesterday. I took pictures when I got home last night from work at 8:30pm. Unfortunately by the time I finished photos it was 11pm. By then both me and my camera were done. So here's one of my daiquiri photos. 🍹 Let's see your daiquiri!
I went on vacation in June and I was lucky enough to try some highly respected bars over seas. One of the most enjoyable patterns I saw was cocktails being served with small snacks that paired with the cocktail’s flavors. I have a couple friends who work at @doadoublegood and they challenged me to do something with one of their flavors. I came up with a bunch of crazy stuff, but my favorite one so far is simple and delicious.
Brown Butter Washed Elijah Craig
Corn Silk Tea Demerara Syrup
Paired with Carmel-Diem Popcorn. The Carmel and the brown butter are so good together. Next idea, popcorn + tiki… 🤔

So...WTF is Aquavit? Or Akvavit depending where you come from. To break it down it is a flavoured, distilled spirit usually from fermented potato or grain mash that is clear to paleish yellow in colour which is most popular in Scandinavian countries. 🇳🇴🇸🇪🇫🇮🇩🇰 .
Different brands offer different flavour combinations but you usually find things like lemon and orange peel, caraway and cumin seeds. .
Our bottle here is from Norway's @linieaquavit_official who age their Aquavit in barrels at sea with their ships sailing to Australia and back to get that distinctive flavour! Have you guys ever tried Aquavit? ⛵️🇦🇺

Feeling the ocean influence on this martini like a Marine Layer. Seaside Gin is one of my new favorites! It’s made with shoreline botanicals & tastes pleasantly crisp & slightly salty. It was a no-brainer to use it in this drink with some edible sea beans as a garnish! DARLING PLUM ♥️
“I am so in Love with you that there isn’t anything else.” -Ernest Hemingway, A Farewell to Arms
The story goes that Hemingway stopped in at El Floridita in Havana, Cuba to use the bathroom, and then sipped his first daiquiri. While he dug it, he wanted 2x the rum and no sugar. His fondness for the drink elevated its popularity and with today being #NationalDaiquiriDay , it’s not a coincidence that Hemingway’s birthday is just 2 days from now on 7/21 (he was born in 1899).
This recipe is from @diffordsguide — and the addition of a really ripe plum to the traditional 3-ingredient recipe (rum, lime juice, sugar/simple syrup) adds beautiful flavor. Called the ‘Plum Daiquiri’ in Difford’s Guide, I renamed it ‘Darling Plum’ — the color is gorgeous & vibrant, and I would argue a showstopper, just like Love.
Recipe - 5 ingredients ::
• 2 oz Brugal Blanco Supremo Rum
• 1 ripe plum
• 1/2 oz fresh lime juice
• 1/2 oz simple syrup
• flower garnish
jigger/mini measuring glass • shaker • muddler • knife • cutting board • citrus squeezer • mesh strainer • peeler • cocktail glass
How to make ::
Chill your cocktail glass in freezer. Peel plum and cut into quarters, get rid of the stone, and muddle in shaker. Add rum, lime juice and simple syrup. Fill shaker halfway or so with ice, shake until cold, and fine strain into chilled glass. Garnish with flower. Also — I used a cocktail glass but this would look elegant in a martini, cocktail or coupe glass. Cheers!
