Man I had a blast tonight playing in Newark with the Basie Orchestra and this man right here, Kurt Elling. I used to sneak into the Green Mill and watch him as much as I could. He’s now in New York and several friends tour with him now. He sang his butt off. What a treat. Plus we had Stefon Harris and Catherine Russell. Good way to cap off this tour. Now off to Chicago on this 5am to make a shooting of Empire all day. @kurtelling @countbasieofficial #BAM#jazz#bigband#countbasieorchestra#trumpet

Born in Florence, AL, 145 years ago, today (November 16, 1873), WILLIAM CHRISTOPHER "W.C." HANDY was a composer and musician. He played with several bands and traveled throughout the Midwest and the South, learning about the African-American folk music that would become known as the blues. Handy later composed his own songs that would popularize the form and become major commercial hits, including "St. Louis Blues," "Memphis Blues" and "Aunt Hagar's Blues." While Handy was not the first to publish music in the blues form, he took the blues from a regional music style with a limited audience to one of the dominant national forces in American music. Widely known as the "Father of the Blues", W.C. Handy died in New York City in 1958. #wchandy#composer#musician#trumpet#cornet#fatheroftheblues#florencealabama#stlouisblues#memphisblues#handypark#memphis#theblues#145thbirthday#november16#1873#happybirthday#RIP

Played in orchestra and jazz today plus two other performances, one this morning of Terry Reilly’s - In C, during post tonal theory, and then once again playing Sunday Afternoon/5 O’clock - the composers name has slipped my mind, I apologize.
If you check it out, it’s originally to be played for a small group of 5 in a flute choir.
Stopped off at Walmart this evening for work pants for Zach, ended up not finding any pants for Zach and I got myself my first pair of wireless Bluetooth headphones from #BlackWeb !!! They are a lovely shade of blue and for only 48$ they work soooo good!!!

I’ve been slacking on my posts for Instagram. Been doing more performances than practicing lately and hoping to get more time in this week.
I had class till 10 last night and was just so tired from having 8 hours of class all day. Been getting a lot of work done for classes and working in my application for my next program so that’s great!
Enjoy this picture I took when I was helping out in the pit band on Tuesday night. 😊🎺
