Solid day of off-season work. Started off with a good 10 mile run with nice hills and then invited a friend last-minute to do some off-road exploring on the Slaughter Green Belt followed up with some beer and burgers and then a few laps around the Veloway.... the weather was amazing and I had a great time way outside my cycling comfort zone. MTB riding is such a different kind of work out compared to road riding and Triathlon. Hopefully, it pays some dividends through the offseason. I burned 3055 calories today and I set an all-time 90 minute cycling heart rate. Whew! Be careful.... Never... Ever... Ever doubt that I will get what I’ve decided to come after. First I will do what I can to accomplish the goal. Then I will discipline myself to do what I must. If I don’t have the tools I will gain them. Last year my goal was to be in contention in my division every event I entered. Now I want to be in contention overall. Had to get faster.... Decided to drop weight. Thirty pounds lighter now. Ready to start next season at my lowest weight since graduating college. (goal done) Had to get my run times down.... (PR’d at 5k, 10k, and 1/2... goal done.) I road.... I road and then... I road some more. Bike times got faster. But they are not where I need them to be. They are competitive but could be better. I would swim lap after lap but still... My strategy was to survive the swim catch everyone in my division on the bike then pass them on the run... but that won’t get me to where I want to be. So it’s time to do what I must.... My goal is to qualify for Kona.... I will not quit till I do. So it’s time to get some help with my training... My preseason training starts on Monday! Got sideswiped on a roundabout (that's right, 2 vehicles don't fit side by side in a narrow single lane, who would have thought). A little bit or realignment later and the Fondriest mostly worked. Enough to get the last 10km home via the coffee shop anyway.

Y’all. I DID IT!! I made a goal to swim sub 1:40/100 yd average for an entire swim. I reeeally wanted to do it before the new year, but haven’t seen the improvement lately, so thought it wasn’t going to happen. And bam 💥 I DID IT!! Maybe it was the iced coffee?! 😂 Lately these Friday night swims have been my favorite. So thankful to have discovered this sport that keeps me sane and keeps me chasing goals. Every year I get a little stronger ❤️
