I fall more in love with this city with every visit. Got to explore a few things I’ve had on my wish list: bike ride on the 606 🚲, hang out on the lakefront 🌊, check out the Wabash Arts Corridor 💜, and kayak the Chicago River 🛶. Can’t wait to return in October and eat again @auchevalchicago 🍔 (didn’t make it this trip!) and (gulp!) run @chimarathon for the third time 🏃🏻♀️.
I ate my weight in pizza...and I'm not mad about it 🍕. Finally tried deep dish pizza @labriolachicago (yum!) and three other styles of Chicago pizza (did you know locals mostly eat the ultra-thin tavern-style pizza and not deep dish?) on @stevedolinsky's new pizza tour, @pizzacityusa. My faves were the deep dish at Labriola and the artisanal pizzas @pizzeriabebu. Thanks Steve for the great tour and post-pizza cocktail @cruzblancachi, great to have a chance to chat food!
One minute you’re listening to the tour guide share Chicago history as you look up in awe of the city’s incredible architecture, and the next you realize you’re floating to middle of the river because @mrwalther (whose kayak you’ve been holding onto for the stop on the tour) has let go of the wall to take a selfie 🤳— and the guide has to stop his spiel to come help you both get back in place 😂. Had the best time kayaking three miles of the Chicago River this morning 🌊🛶.
“Ask any racer. Any real racer. It don't matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winning's winning.” I most certainly wasn’t the fastest but I did have a blast working on my driving skills on the track with @porschecanada and I think that’s still winning. More on the blog soon about my #porscheexperience .
I’ve come a long way from the one and only other time I’ve cross-country skied: as an elementary school kid, I hated every second of it and was so slow; the entire bus of students on the field trip was waiting for me on the bus ready to leave as I panicked and skiied back as fast as I could, alone. This morning’s ski? It was a refreshing and fun way to take in the beauty of Canmore 🏔❄️🌲, and a great workout!
My calendar is just filled with ways to keep @billiejeanxoxo’s tail happily wagging and ears flopping about as she explores 💙.
Love getting out to parts of the city we don’t get to very often, especially on gorgeous sunny days like today.
In 2016, I traveled solo to Calgary and Banff National Park 💙. Solo travel can sometimes be hard (I remember being so happy to meet an American in Florence to chat in English with after so many days of not engaging with anyone) but this trip to Alberta to one of my most favourite spots in the world, on my own, I learned a lot about myself and loved every minute of this adventure (even getting lost a million times driving!). Do you enjoy traveling solo?
I’ve been home for three months straight now, which is the longest I’ve been home in the past four or five years. And while I love to travel, and being somewhere warm and tropical or skiing down some beautiful mountains right now would be amazing, my schedule has not been good for me. It’s been a luxury to sleep in my own bed and not have to stress about unpacking, repacking and getting all my shit done in very little time these past few months. I’ll never turn down the opportunity for new experiences around the world and I’ll always have an ongoing travel bucket list, but being home and having a routine is good, too 💙. #travelswellness#wanderlust#homesweethome#selfcare#selfcaresunday
