Two steps forward. One step back. That’s the way progress seems to go. In life, business, relationships... I believe this is more about perception than action cause in the end, you’re always moving forward and unable to take a step back. Our life is in constant motion and our small daily choices are what build our lives, as well as determine where we’re going. Where we end up is unpredictable which is why owning your thoughts, being aware of your surroundings and recognizing what it is to be present vs absent in your moment to moment thought process.
That 100 day challenge is something I am still doing but it will affect me for the rest of my life. Little things that are simple help a lot and that’s how you realize it’s the little things that will change your life. .
The big decisions are the ones we put most pressure on but those are choices that will not affect your life in drastic ways. Which school will I go to? Who will I marry? What job will I take? Do I sell my house? Should I buy one? Where I move to? Those are the big de idioms we focus on but none of those choices are going to threaten your life. It’s the little things - should I cross the street now? Do I drive home after drinking? Should it run that red light? Do I go swimming in that water? Should I stay and have one more? Should I kite in this weather? Should I cut back on eating this and that? What do I order? These small choices are what kill us or keep us safe and healthy. The risks are in the small choices which is why I urge you to be present. .
After a while being present feels good and it doesn’t require effort. Becoming aware that we all struggle with being present will help you notice when you’re present with your whole self and when you aren’t. I’m so surprised at how often I have to make my mind get back in gear. It’s so easy to plan a million things in your mind while making small talk but small talk matter. That person telling you about their day matters and your connection with them will grow deeper if you listen with your whole self. .
I’ve learned that making the time to meditate, think, plan helps you look at the long run which makes NOW so much more important.

It’s not all work and no play!!
I got a question yesterday about why I was in Chicago, and I quickly realize y’all don’t really know what I do for a living!! So for this #introductionfriday let’s chat about work.
Yes, I’m a mom. Yes, I’m a wife. Yes, I love Disney, community, and my oils. But at my core, I’m deeply passionate around learning. I started out as a teacher, quickly learned that teaching was not just confined to the spaces of a classroom. Which led me down the road to my current gig!
Most days you’ll find me at home working from my office desk, front porch, or Turquoise Table... but every few weeks I get to hop on a plane and see the faces that I work with everyday!!
So what do I do? I’m the head of talent management at a consulting firm. What does that mean? Welp, so much but basically helping people grow and develop throughout their careers — which led me to sunny Chicago this week.
PS... the Hilton Chicago Hotel is so magical. A full review will be on the blog next week!!
"I like beginnings because they’re so full of promise. The first page of a book, the first day of a job, the first time you buy yourself flowers, the first date with a new man, the first touch, the first kiss, the first kick of a good liquor. I like beginnings because I know there’s always more to come."
