I’m almost done spamming you with my Disney pics peeps I swear 😉 Trying to conjure up the energy to start a new week but also finish a post I want to have ready for you tomorrow and Disney Studios was the pic of choice 😜
I have to say though it has been a fairly productive weekend and the Footsteps household is officially lit for Christmas 🎄👍 What have you been up to this weekend? 😊
Nick’s Kitchen just outside San Francisco has ridiculously good food! It was hard to pick but I had the jackfruit ribs, mac n cheese, and fried “egg,” but we all shared and everything was really good. That purple ice cream that was somehow made of yams was some of the best ice cream I’ve ever had!
Saturday vibes on a rainy day call for another blog post to read. 💭
#derrikiadailydose ; YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT!
Be careful what you indulge in this holiday season.. or any day for that matter. I challenge you to really take in everything you’re eating.. not for hunger but for the experience it gives your body. Let me explain… use your 5 senses & take in the smell, what it looks like, what it sounds like, & the taste/texture food gives before grabbing that second (or third. hehe) plate. A lot of people eat out of plain hunger, so they only focus on getting full to then go to sleep and the next day “feeling tired/fat”. Is it that deep? Nah, but I just want you guys to see it differently this time around.
The phrase ‘you are what you eat’ is REAL. The booty is constantly reconstructing itself daily, whether from a mean workout or an injury. Your body needs some type of nutrients to thrive off of. Why not add greenery more and subtract the fries/bread this month to see what your body/skin will tell you next month🌱
Old skin cells fall off every two weeks, these cells are replaced every 27 to 39 days. Over the course of 7 to 10 years your bones will do the same, why do you think the older you get the younger you feel? But it starts with you and what you put in your body. Choose wisely this holiday season bc it will come to the surface sooner than later.👀
Is it me or did everyone seem to have their Christmas trees up super early this year?! Me and Mr Footsteps are joining the club this weekend and I can’t wait to get all our travel-themed decs out 😄 We buy an ornament everywhere we go and when we decorate our tree it’s so cool to remind ourselves of all the places we’ve been and the awesome adventures we’ve been on. Let’s face it, I wasn’t getting that epic Disney tree back from Paris was I? 😏
Have you put your Christmas tree up yet? Are you yay or nay on a theme? 😄🎄🎁
My new favorite tropical plant Calathea Ornata🌴if you have darker corners, this beauty will have no problems growing and will prettify your room 😍 additionally to that is this an air cleaning plant🙆🏼 sweet 🦋
Vegan food in Córdoba!🤩
This was a little cafe called La Libélula Coffee Shop, which offered a nice variety of sandwiches, wraps, bowls, salads, smoothies, coffee and more- all vegan 🌱
The first picture is of their gyro which I had for lunch today. Filled with veggies, chickpeas and vegan tzatziki- it was heavenly. I am a sucker for anything sweet so I had to get a slice of their chocolate cake.
It all came to an even 10€. (They are cash-only BTW)
The last photo was my dinner last night that which was the Mexicano; a wrap with beans, veggies and salsa. It looks simple but the flavors were so good!
I really liked the vibe of this place and all of the produce was on display so you could see how fresh everything was. They also had for sale some grocery-type items like vegan cheese, teas, chocolate, natural cosmetics and more. Super cool, I am so grateful for this place as it was pretty much my main food source for my two days in Córdoba!
Airport musings... ✈️ These boots have been with me for 6 years now. And it shows. They went to so many places around the world, but also to my garden.
They’ve taken me on countless adventures, but also to school drop offs.
They’ve now taken the exact shape of my feet, but maybe it’s time to part.
People who know me know these boots. They’ve been an extension of my limbs,
They were vegan before vegan leather was even a thing,
They’re called my “garden boots”, and really, they are exactly that, my first contact with the Earth as I trod along in this life.
Before we part, how about one last trip to Jamaica? Naturally, they’ve been there more than once.
Taking pictures in here was stressful. You go in with a group and you have different groups of people in front of you and others behind you. The tour guide behind us was rushing and a guy with a nice camera in front of us kept taking pictures of every wall. Needless to say we had plenty of people in the way. I've always fantasized of coming across some undiscovered piece of nature where it's just me and 0 humans. We really bother the beauty of nature when we're in multitudes 👽
Flashback to a year and a half ago (literally right before I began my transition to #Veganism ). My beautiful cousin @ha_beebs and I were venturing around #Paris and stumbled across a #Vegan protest. It took us a second to figure out what was going on, but once I saw the "Sauvez-Moi" sign w/ the picture of a pig on it, we figured out what was going on (4 yrs of rusty high school French) an English speaker eventually clued us in as well. I remember thinking to myself, HOW in the hell are you vegan in THIS city, and why would you want to be?! I've been both vegetarian and pescatarian and have lived my entire life w/ certain dietary restrictions due to my religion, but I couldn't fathom veganism is the world's capital of rich, savory, buttery desserts, cheeses, and coffee. Ironically, this also wasn't the moment that convinced me to transition. That happened after returning home.. Food is one of the best experiences of #Travel for me, and now that I am plant-based, I am determined to help other plant-based friends navigate different cities and countries. I travel often, so I will continue to keep you guys posted on how I manage away from my home base of Atl. Whenever I get ready to revisit Europe, I will have to consult @yep_thatsvegan. I see that she is also a well traveled vegan, and I need all the help I can get! Do you guys have any travel tips for us newer vegans?? 🌱
I have arrived in Córdoba! After doing much research on where to eat vegan here, I came up with... nothing! So far this glass of wine is the only restaurant purchase I have made. Granted, I haven’t tried very hard as dinner won’t be for another hour or two- but I think this will be a challenge.
I find that traveling alone often makes trying new restaurants/eateries more difficult, as I am also being conscious of what vibe I get in the restaurant, and if I will be comfortable eating alone. Pair this with limited choices of eateries due to lack of vegan options and, well, it is no easy feat.
Wish me luck! (At least there’s always french fries😉)
South Korea is know for its meat-based barbecue though the first stop right off our flight was a tiny restaurant at the airport that served a hearty vegan meal. They filled our bellies with a miso soup filled with seaweed and greens, served with fermented veggies and of course, kimchi on the side. Being vegan doesn’t mean being in lack and so thus far in Seoul, we’ve had an abundance of people be more than accommodating. 📷 @brian_73
vegan oyster mushroom po’boy x vegan artichoke cakes from @secondnaturepb 🌟 this is my favorite place with vegan options close to my house in La Jolla !! Their vegan artichoke cakes are amazing (probably my favorite thing on the menu)!! I think the next time I go I’m going to try their vegan nachos ?! They also have great mimosa brunches on the weekend that my friends and I love 🤫🥂
We visited Singapore's first ever #CatCafe 😻 @nekononiwa I was in pure cat heaven!
There are 11 gorgeous pussycats all rescued from around the city. We stayed there for an hour enjoying the views and of course the cuddles!
Definitely check it out if you are a coffee addict and a crazy cat person like me. It's PURRfect - I had to do it.... -
Btw, my model for the photo is called Skittles 🧡
