There is tons of positive value coming from a positive mindset. But don’t forget your mindset means nothing without action and your action means nothing without a plan. And your plan means nothing without at least 2 back up plans. I generally have 6-10 back up plans; just saying 🤓

I’ve been wanting my whole life to travel the world. My life was going perfectly so I booked a trip a year ago and started traveling for a year. Now there is death and disaster and emergencies in my life and I’m still somehow against all odds leaving tomorrow to go live out a dream I’ve had for about 6 years. Because I don’t wish I do. I don’t think I do. I don’t ask I do. I do do do do!

It’s so easy to think about what we “should” be doing in terms of our health and fitness. That person over there is doing Keto. That guy is doing Peloton. That gal is into CrossFit. If you look to others and think, “I should be doing that,” guess what? You become overwhelmed, indecisive, and discouraged. You likely never start. (This is often what happens to us time-strapped and exhausted road warriors.)

So the key is to start with YOU. Where are you right now, health-wise? What can you (NOT “should you”) do to feel a little better and stronger today, tomorrow, the next day?

No matter where you are today - mentally, physically, geographically - start from where you are, and the results will come in time.

We got up early every morning in Varkala. It was so hot later in the day, and there was so much going on early in the morning. And the cooler temperature meant we could go for a run along the beach. We saw so much, like these fishermen, and children heading off for school. Of course running along a trail in Kerala made us feel somewhat conspicuous, but no one thought we were locals anyways!!😜

Never miss a chance to get a workout in! One of my favorite parts of traveling is getting out to explore a city by foot. I feel it not only connects me to the city but to my body as well. Greeting from Chicago this morning and part three of my transformation. The first photo was taken In August, 2012 and was the inspiration behind starting my weight loss.  The second photo was taken in Dec 2012 when I was down about 20 lbs and five weeks into my weight loss.  The third photo was taken in Feb, 2013 after losing about 40 lbs from when the first photo taken. 
The first photo inspired me to lose weight. We were on a cruise to Alaska.  When I first saw the photo, I thought I looked fantastic. I then looked at the photo a couple of hours later and realized I was settling for being overweight and I needed to do something about it. 
I saw a post for a weight loss seminar that was being held on the cruise the next morning. I decided to attend. When the person came out to give the talk, the person claimed to be a doctor while being morbidly obese (he stated that he became obese from an injury). He then starting talking about how most people are carrying about 15 - 20 lbs of extra weight due to fecal matter being stuck in their digestive systems.  He claimed the only way to get rid of this weight was to take a massive amount of special fiber supplements that started at $500 a month. I declined his sales pitch and wrote him off as being a quack. 
I started researching fiber based diets on my computer and read many good things. My doctor had been encouraging me to start taking over the counter fiber supplements. My new plan was to start taking these supplements while loading up on foods high in fiber such as almonds.

The good news was that all the digestive issues that plagued me when away. The bad news was my weight started on a fast upward trajectory. I was eating almonds for a snack like no tomorrow along with my usual high protein diet. We returned from a business trip the day before Hurricane Sandy and I tipped the scales at 235 lbs. Greeting from Chicago this morning and part three of my transformation. The first photo was taken In August, 2012 and was the inspiration behind starting my weight loss.  The second photo was taken in Dec 2012 when I was down about 20 lbs and five weeks into my weight loss.  The third photo was taken in Feb, 2013 after losing about 40 lbs from when the first photo taken. The first photo inspired me to lose weight. We were on a cruise to Alaska.  When I first saw the photo, I thought I looked fantastic. I then looked at the photo a couple of hours later and realized I was settling for being overweight and I needed to do something about it. I saw a post for a weight loss seminar that was being held on the cruise the next morning. I decided to attend. When the person came out to give the talk, the person claimed to be a doctor while being morbidly obese (he stated that he became obese from an injury). He then starting talking about how most people are carrying about 15 - 20 lbs of extra weight due to fecal matter being stuck in their digestive systems.  He claimed the only way to get rid of this weight was to take a massive amount of special fiber supplements that started at $500 a month. I declined his sales pitch and wrote him off as being a quack. I started researching fiber based diets on my computer and read many good things. My doctor had been encouraging me to start taking over the counter fiber supplements. My new plan was to start taking these supplements while loading up on foods high in fiber such as almonds. The good news was that all the digestive issues that plagued me when away. The bad news was my weight started on a fast upward trajectory. I was eating almonds for a snack like no tomorrow along with my usual high protein diet. We returned from a business trip the day before Hurricane Sandy and I tipped the scales at 235 lbs. I decided at that point that I needed to see a legitimate nutritionist for the first time. See comments.

There will be a squat, a hinge, a push, and a pull in each one.  This means you can mix and match the movements, based on what equipment you have access to (i.e., a kettlebell hinge, a bodyweight push, a dumbbell squat, and a TRX pull if you had access to all of the equipment), and create a ton of workouts with them.

In part 2️⃣ we’re going over our TRX movements: Rear Foot Elevated Split Squat, Single Arm Inverted Row, Hamstring Curl, and Standing Rollout to Push-Up.

We recommend setting a clock for 15-20 minutes and moving from exercise to exercise for 6-10 reps each at a casual pace.  While you CAN do them in any order, we purposely have them set in the order of squat ➡️ pull ➡️ hinge ➡️ push to alternate upper and lower body pushes and pulls.  The order will be the same all week to make it easy to sub in the different movements we’ll be presenting!

As much as I love traveling, I love consistency. Hitting the gym everyday last week to finish off another challenging cycle @evolutionathleticsnc was exactly what I needed this time of year.

While my lifts were relatively low for what I want to be lifting, I’m happy with the improvements I’ve seen in form and range of motion over the past several months.

If I’ve learned anything this year, balance over time adds up in giving your body the space it needs to adapt to new movement patterns and for supporting exercises to begin to shape your movements.

Heute haben wir ein so so cooles Produkt entdeckt. Die Sonnencreme von @cocoalohasurf 😍 Eine Sonnencreme nur aus natürlichen Inhaltsstoffen, ohne Plastik innen und außen! Die Inhaltsstoffe in „normaler“ Sonnencreme sind sehr sehr schädlich für die Meere, besonders für die Riffe. Jeder kennt die Bilder von ausgeblichenen Riffen, die vor ein paar Jahren noch wunderschön bunt waren, oder? Auf jeden Fall ist in dieser Creme nichts schädliches drin, sie lässt sich trotzdem super auf tragen und ist sogar getönt 😋 Zum Glück hab es die Creme gleich in einem Café hier um die Ecke 🙌🏻 Mehr Infos dazu gibt es gleich auch noch in der Story.

Someone very wise once told me... stop wasting mental energy on deciding, and make an effort to “decide to stop deciding”. What this means is to stop asking yourself if you “feel” like working out. If you “feel” like eating healthy. If you’re “motivated” enough to do the things that you know are good for you. Motivation fades. It’s fickle. It comes and goes. And if you spend your life waiting for that perfect moment when you’re seriously motivated... you’re going to waste a lot of time! Habits are what keep you going, even when things get hard and you don’t want to. So focus more on building the new habits than fighting the old. Create healthy habits that start to become as automatic as brushing your teeth. You don’t think about whether you FEEL like brushing your teeth, do you? Nah, you just do it. So stop over thinking it. Because if you ask yourself if you “feel” like doing anything, chances are, the answer is going to be no. It’s an absolutely freeing feeling when you step outside that zone and do it anyway, even when you don’t FEEL like it.

Who wants to wait for the lone treadmill in the hotel gym or *hope* that the free weights are free?! Been on this trip across the world for a few days now, and trust me- i’m exhausted from actual work, from traveling, from the time change, from basically all of it. But I know that taking those 20-25 min for myself in the morning is what makes my day way better and ready for it all. 
And plus, knowing that my Virtual Gym Bootcamp ladies are doing the best they can during this holiday season just makes me want to push even harder! They are just absolute rockstars and they motivate me to be a better challenger and coach 💥
