The beauty of having family and friend links with another country is that you get to see places that are off the beaten track - places where tourists don’t often go. Not one to stay on a resort anyway, I’m the sort of traveller that loves to see how the locals live. .
My mums neighbour and friend of over 45 years used to live in London but moved back to her home country of St Lucia around 20 years ago. Her house now sits yards away from the beach. Maybe not great when a hurricane strikes but the calm seas and slightly grey skies welcomed us that day. I’d describe the village of Laborie (situated in the south of the island) as quite quaint. But not in the English countryside type of way. More in an authentic Caribbean kinda way: fishing boats, old-fashioned plywood houses standing next to their modern cousins, friendly locals and a pier stretching out from the sandy beach. More photos of the beautiful town to follow. .
