Though Toyota had some success with their previous Celica rally cars (at longer endurance races, like the Safari Rally), it wasn’t until Carlos Sainz got behind the wheel of the new Celica GT-Four in the early ’90s that Toyota became a major contender in WRC. El Matador himself was also the first non-Nordic driver to win the 1,000 Lakes Rally behind the wheel of his Toyota, and he still holds the record for most career starts in WRC.

A few weeks ago, @creilly.ucf11, @ddinnie, @tundatime, and I visited @japanpartsservice so that Chris could pick up an unexpired flare for his UCF11 Celsior. While we were there, @japaneseclassicsllc kindly let us move some of their cars to do a quick shoot. One of the three Toyota Celsiors in their inventory had the original Toyota flashlight – an accessory that is notorious for going missing. Don't tell Chris, but I think his is the best equipped.
A 1992-1994 Toyota Celsior. NOT a Lexus LS 400. As the Lexus brand wasn’t introduced in the Japanese market until 2006, Toyota-badged versions of Lexus products were offered there instead. The first in this line of vehicles was the Celsior, which was sold from 1990 to 1994, and only through Toyota’s ‘Toyopet’ stores. For the most part identical to the LS 400 sold in the United States, the Celsior was responsible for introducing two world firsts; a high-performance air suspension with twin-tube shock absorbers and active dampening, and a GPS navigation system with voice instructions, which bowed for the 1992 model year. The example pictured here has the navigation system - take a look at the interior picture. Given this, we know that this is a 1992 or later model. Given that vehicles built on or before September 12, 1993 are, as of today, eligible for import in accordance with the 25-year grey market import threshold, this could be either a 1992, 1993 or even a very early 1994 model.
Celsior sales lasted until the 2006 model year, up until the introduction of Lexus Japan.
Just found this awesome optional celsior acvessory in my storage!
It is a UCF20 Toyota Celsior OEM optional folding rear ottoman. I am 90% sure its for the left rear passenger side but cannot be 100% certain as I no longer have a celsior to test it on. It really doesn't matter which side as it is a super cool item to have regardless!
It is in cloth grey colour but can easily be dyed black or even reupholstered to any colour of your choice.
It bolts on using the anchor bolts on stock seats. I added last 2 x pics as sample of how it looks/works/folds up out of way when I had the same ottoman on my celsior (but black leather version). It is a very difficult item to source these days for UCF20 chasis. It will fit 95-00 years.
Price: US$235 shipped to lower 48s/Canada.
