These delightfully dapper Horned Puffins spend time between feeding to preen themselves. These colonial nesters, pair bond while they keep those beautiful feathers well oiled and well clean. •
When I think of birds that have predominately black feathers there are few I consider stunningly beautiful. The male American Redstart would be one of the exceptions . The touch of orange combined with black makes this guy really stand out. On this particular day the light was overcast which provide the perfect shooting conditions. #beauty#warbler#wildlifephotography
This weird-looking bird is a saddle-billed stork, the tallest stork in the world. I spotted her standing on the banks of the River Nile while on a boat trip in Murchison Falls National Park.
The patch on her chest is called a 'brood patch' - it's a bare area of skin well-supplied with blood vessels for keeping her eggs warm when she's incubating. When she settles over the eggs, the heat from her body will be easily transferred to the eggs through this patch.
