At first glance, the man on our July 30, 2018, cover might seem familiar: it was created by morphing images of two of the world’s most recognizable men, President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The composite image, by visual artist @nancyburson, is meant to represent this particular moment in U.S. foreign policy, following the pair’s recent meeting in Helsinki. As our senior White House correspondent Brian Bennett writes in this week’s cover story: “A year and a half into his presidency, Trump’s puzzling affinity for #Putin has yet to be explained. #Trump is bruised by the idea that Russian election meddling taints his victory, those close to him say, and can’t concede the fact that Russia did try to interfere in the election, regardless of whether it impacted the outcome. He views this problem entirely through a political lens, these people say, unable or unwilling to differentiate between the question of whether his campaign colluded with #Russia—which he denies—and the question of whether Russia attempted to influence the election.” Burson, who became well known for developing a technique to age faces, which is used by the FBI to find missing children, says the goal of her latest composite is to help readers “stop and think” when it comes to similarities between the two leaders. “What my work has always been about is allowing people to see differently,” she tells TIME. “The combining of faces is a different way for people to see what they couldn’t see before.” Read this week's full cover story on TIME.com. 75 years ago my great grandfather was featured on the cover of @time magazine. When it became apparent #America was going to be entering WW2.... he petitioned to and then created the #usairforce. He made the airforce a separate entity from the military. Andrews Airforce Base, THE D.C. base where #airforceone resides.... that’s my namesake and my kids are the last direct descendants. That’s my family’s legacy and my strong tie, reinforced by pride, to my country. General Andrews died in a plane crash over Iceland and Eisenhower ended up taking his position. My grandfather also served. And then my father. Why am I telling you all this? Because I can despise our president and still appreciate and honor those that gave us the freedom to state my distaste. I love my country. I love my country because of the people that made it legal to say- My President disgusts me. Thank you for your sacrifice. Our freedom is worth fighting for. It shames me every time Trump literally treads on my family name. His very (tiny) step on the tarmac embarrasses me. My family didn’t fight to become a pawn to Trump’s ego. This isn’t the county they dreamed of. Keep fighting, keep protesting, keep VOTING

I just read that a "personality trait" is defined as a long lasting, REPETITIVE pattern of perceiving your environment and your SELF.

So the thing that what makes you uniquely YOU, is what you think and tell yourself every day?

That's some profound shit ain't it?!? The Secret was onto something. If u keep having positive thoughts, you become a physical manifestation of your positivity. Negative thoughts = bad juju

Ps. I Took this picture on a busy street that moves ssssssslow. I was more shocked that someone was able to flip her car over on this street than by the actual flipped over car.

I never quite have the right words to describe all the things that go on in my head. Thank you @katzandrew @time sincerely for your willingness, patience, and for allowing me to navigate nuanced narratives alongside @arynebaker - humbled to have spent time with her and to share space with her words.
And @ohoud_ah seen here on the international cover, for her kindness in allowing me to join her on her first drive. To all the women, in this story and otherwise, to the poetics and power of a future we have yet to create, the one we can’t imagine, of course the one we continue to hope for. And I say it all the time but women, especially Saudi women, have always been and always will be way way way bigger than cars.
————
For decades, the prohibition against female drivers has been held up as evidence by critics of the ultraconservative kingdom that Saudi women were among the world’s most repressed. If the ban was the symbol of all that was wrong with Saudi Arabia, then lifting it—on June 24—would prove that the country was on the right track. So Driving Day was, in a way, a coming-out party for Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s #SaudiArabia. That meant well-scripted rallies, carefully selected spokeswomen and photo-ready #driving classes. Nowhere was there a mention of the activists who had spent the past three decades campaigning for women’s right to drive, save for unwelcome—and unanswered—questions from foreign media about six of those #activists, who have spent the past month in jail on unspecified charges. Other activists were released from detention but warned not to speak to the media. The decision by a crown prince who calls himself a reformer to detain activists calling for reform raises a question for a generation of young #Saudi women whose future lies in the balance. Does the lifting of the driving ban signify a genuine turning point, or is it merely a symbolic bone thrown to silence his critics, leaving more fundamental issues for women unaddressed?

So proud to be Canadian each and every day, but couldn’t be more reminded of that these days when I see all these horrifying headlines of children refugees being separated from their parents in America, with no thought how how this is going to affect future generations. Thank you @time for such a raw and poignant cover on this week’s edition, and not shying away from the joke that is your President. To all my fellow Canadians, stay proud, be thankful for our wonderful country, and have a wonderful Canada Day long weekend 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
