I was a little ambitious and combined the Mimi Blouse and the Megan Skirt to make a dress and I love it!!!! #loveatfirststitch is my favorite sewing book right now, but I have #tillyandthebuttonsstretch stretch on deck! I also love that so far everything I have made fits perfectly! #tillyandthebuttons I love you so much! I just wish your patterns were available in the US! I would buy them all!
I wanted to give the turtleneck look a try with the @tillybuttons Freya. I haven't worn a turtleneck since third grade! But I really love the look - it has a certain elegance to it. I hacked the Freya sweater to have a gathered skirt - which was a lot easier said than done. I used the elastic method to gather, and it was incredibly tricky. I was so pleased with the top part (except that the seams didn't press so easily) and when I got to the skirt I was swearing under my breath! But it's certainly wearable - I just need to figure out that method properly before I make another one - any tips for gathering knits?
Fabric is micro rib knit from @blackbirdfabrics - it is crazy soft!
Brrr, I hope everyone is wrapped up warm and safe, surviving #stormali Quite chilly here in Inverness so decided to cut myself some of this gorgeous soft cosy knit to make a #sewingfreya Who has started on their winter wardrobe? Fiona x
Day 14 of #sewphotohop and it's #wardrobeessentials
I am doing a lot of sketching/drawing and colouring, I haven't actually made anything yet😅I am thoroughly loving this process though.
I definitely think leggings are a wardrobe essential of mine because they're so versatile. You can dress them up and down. They're warm and you can make them as funky as you like ... Now to make a pair!...
#sewphotohop day 6: seasonal favorites
Nr 1 pattern the summer #B6453 for sure.I think i have 6 or 7 dresses made out of it.
I also love cotton or stretch cotton for summers, and you never can go wrong with a lemon print.
For autumn and winter I love knitted stretch fabrics. They are so cosy. I just made a joni dress from @tillybuttons #tillyandthebuttonsstretch book and IT IS AMAZING. I am planning on many more dresses
Serged something out of @tillybuttons #tillyandthebuttonsstretch book early this morning. What a great pattern! So simple and well-drafted. I used the same knit fabric as my sweatshirt from a destash swap with @theeverydaymaker 💜I was really excited to find this book at my local library, and if you are #sewingeconomically I highly recommend checking your publuc library for pattern books! ✨I also want to say something about sewing (or even living) economically in general: there is a misconception that to be frugal, you must be miserly or cheap. I have found the opposite to be true. There are ways of limiting spending that will ENABLE you to support others, position you to be able to help when the opportunity arises, and to be ok with less stuff when it means more living and real purpose. Now, I am a spender by nature, I also experience fear at times about having "enough", as most people do. In our home, we have said no to many things that would provide more fiscal income because we believe we can have a fuller life on less. Those things are our priorities and values. When there is extra, it's a huge blessing to give. When local, small, or indie businesses provide services, it's a blessing to support.
Most of my sewing is going to be done on a shoestring budget, creatively, thriftily, and yes- limited to a point. So that 💎we stay as debt-free as possible 💎 if we go out to eat for a birthday or anniversary, we can tip our waitress big 💎 if our kids hear about a need and want to move on it, we can equip them to do so.
This frugality brings true joy. (If you're into this sort of thing- check out @lazyfrugal she is one of the greatest people I know and so much fun!!) 💜
Today is for unfinished projects, which mostly means hemming and sewing on buttons (I hate sewing buttons!!). Some of these have been sitting for years, some for weeks, but I've finally finished them and now feel better about moving on to a new project! #mccalls6696 (one of my all-time favorite patterns), #newlook6340 , @grainlinestudio #grainlinealder shirt hack, #grainlinewillowtank in sloth fabric!!!! And finally @tillybuttons #tillyandthebuttonsstretch Stella hoodie.
We have lots of beautiful stretch fabrics in our online shop. If you're nervous about sewing knits don't be, it's much easier than you think. @tillybuttons fabulous new stretch book has loads of great tips and tricks. My go to tools for sewing stretchy fabric are my rotary cutter, ballpoint needles and my walking/quilting machine foot. Now to decide what project to sew......
#frankietshirt#frankiet#shesewsvintage#sodberrysewingschool . In keeping with what I have been seeing and learning from the STITCH SISTERS Vlog. I made a headband with a bow sewn on top of the band out of my left over fabric from my #tillyandthebuttonsstretch and I used a little bit more to line the first 7 inches of the sleeves at the wrist to allow me to cuff the sleeves while leaving them a little wider than the pattern shows. Love the STITCH SISTERS VLOG. You should totally give their channel a look see! It's like having a chat with friends about sewing!
