Let me tell you a story about this set of cookies.
I made this set for a little boy whose party was a dual Thomas the Train/Cars theme. It was an order for a mom living in the Bay Area, and her son's birthday party was on a Saturday afternoon. No problem. That just meant I had to leave Chico early enough to meet her in the Bay, then give her enough time to get back home in time for her party.
I had so many cookies and macarons to make, and was running behind that Saturday morning. I left a few hours later than I had planned, but it was still ok for her. When I finally met up with her, I handed off the box and, curious, I asked her how she heard of me. Normally I can connect the dots (usually I get referrals from friends). But, she said she found me because someone had recommended me on a random Facebook Bay Area mommies page.
I had a couple large orders that weekend, but this was the only one that needed to make it to the Bay on Saturday. The only reason I had absolutely needed to be there that afternoon.
Shortly after I met up with her, I went home to my parents' house, as usual. But, this time, I found my dad in a deteriorating state. I was there to help my mom, call 911, and in a few hours, Dad passed.
I am not a particularly religious person, but I believe the universe works in mysterious ways. Had I not taken her order, I almost certainly would have not been in town at that time (I probably wouldn't have arrived until later that night). And, I would have missed Dad. Brown Box Bakeshop has been a blessing in more ways than I can possibly count.
Over a week has passed. I'm back home in Chico. Dad would have wanted me to continue on. That said, I will resume orders as I normally planned, with the gradual slowdown in September for maternity leave. I completely understand if future orders have moved on, but I will check in regardless.
Thank you so much to everyone who has reached out. It has been difficult, but each day, the sun continues to rise and set.
And thank you to Cynthia, for granting me those last few moments with Dad.
