At this moment, I was cold. 23F/-5C, on top of a mountain, in upstate New York, while it was sort of snowing, while wearing a cape and a sweater because I took off my jacket and vest, probably telling my friends to hurry up and take the shot, c o l d.
But, this isn’t a sob story. In fact, I was enjoying the weekend with 9 of my friends, in the Adirondacks for a “Friendsgiving”. A sleep deprived, adventure filled wknd, where I cooked all the breakfasts and dinners because I was, “Mom”, and we ended up hiking to ‘Narnia’. It’s what I love about photos. They take you back and show you how far you’ve come.
For example, while I was happy with my friends here, looking at this, I see a girl who had a lot of work to do on herself over the next cpl years. I also think of how everyone I was with has taken a beautiful and unique path since this day. Paths full of success, love, self love, growth, travel, and life. I still have as much ❤️ for them all as I did back then. I wouldn’t be where I am today without that crew. They put me on this path. They are part of my story.
The universe is funny that way. Sometimes it has a way of making sure we wind up exactly where we belong, when we need to belong.
Remember that the next time you feel as if you’re standing out in the cold. Sometimes we have to get lost to find each other, or to find ourselves, or lose and find each other several times over to get it right. So breathe in the moment, and try to be open to wherever the wind's going to take you next, or where/who it’s taking you back to. Don’t give up no matter how hopeless it seems, because happiness manifests from the most unexpected places ✨.
Warm Autumn light from the other day because in reality it's chucking it down but I'm very much enjoying the sound of the rain on the tin roof, it's very calming. If it's raining where you are, hope you're dry and cosy! Lesley x

We made it to Thursday! 🙌 Who is ready for the weekend??
I started a 6:30am shift this week which has really made the week go by slower. But the upside: I leave at 2:30pm and have so much afternoon to enjoy my new balcony!
Eve, of whom I had written about in an earlier post, played sweet havoc in my mind once again today. 'Eve' was the name given to a woman who had walked along a shore in South Africa after a rain-storm 117,000 years ago. Her footprints had fossilized until they were discovered in 1995.
For the second time this year, I found myself in Bhimbhetka, marveling at the ancient cave paintings that deck the rock shelters here. Some paintings were made by men and women who had lived through adventures - they depicted close encounters with sinister beasts , scenes of warfare and hunts. Some others I gathered, were by children who etched squiggly elephants and cats. I imagined the young falling asleep beside their mothers 40,000 years ago, peering up starry-eyed at the paintings on their low ceilings illumined by a dying flame; bedtime stories they could touch and feel with an outstretched arm as they laid down... An earth pigment called 'Ochre' was used to create these paintings. The same pigment that Eve was thought to have worn when she roamed the African coast. If our origins lie in Africa, then I imagine that all the knowledge and life-practices of Eve and her people were carried to distant shores, wherever so 'Man' arrived. Most certainly in Bhimbhetka. Standing 117,000 years too far, I felt distant and yet intimately, affectionately, physically drawn toward Eve in the same moment... As I stood beneath this ochre-speckled tapestry decorated by my elders, I realised 'Eve' was in all of us. #Eve#outofeden
Looking forward to the beautiful coastlines of Western Australia next week 🤗 On another note, sorry for the lack of post and new photos as work is getting the better of me. Hopefully Ill get to catch up over the weekend.
