Semi-circle on the reformer is sometimes an exercise I skip when doing my own workouts, but I shouldn't. 😳 For anyone with areas of tightness in the spine this is a great exercise to work on articulation. I learned this with heels together, toes slightly apart but find so much more stretch in the quads when working parallel. So what did you do last night? Went out dancing or to cinema? Friday evening and I have decided to finally finalize my #yogaproject 😉 Inspiration didn’t stop until midnight when my butt was almost paralyzed and I wanted to continue...but how? 🤭 I took my laptop on my #yogamat and did the #thighstretch and continued like this for another hour! 🐝🤩 Unbelievable what the body is capable! This said, next time you can’t sit anymore and you are still highly motivated to continue don’t go on your sofa just prepare your mat and try it out 😉 Yoga before bedtime? Yoga engages the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for “rest and digest” functions (it is the opposite to the infamous “fight or flight” response). Practicing yoga before bed is a really lovely way to remove the stress from your body.
Deep or harmonious #breathing also helps reduce heart rate, making it a perfect practice before #bedtime . Getting all oxygenated and releasing muscle tension before bed is the best way to ensure that those aches and pains do not interfere with your sleep. I love it! .

August is #spinalmobility month and for this weeks #healingwithpilates 79 #backextension with @zaynagold and @functionfabulous I'm definitely out of my comfort zone.  I so envy all the beautiful extension I see on Instagram but my thoracic has limited range in extension and I have to be really mindful of finding length through the spine first and focus on opening across the chest and front of the body  to avoid dumping into my lumbar.  Which brings me to Consistency....consistecy in practicing the things my body doesn't love but definitely needs is key in making gradual changes...#worksinprogress #thoracicextension #practicenotperfect #thighstretch #trapezetable #studiopilates

Thigh stretch with a little extra yum! This exercise has become a favorite of mine because a majority of my work is very front body. What I mean is I am constantly flexed changing springs, lifting weights, holding kiddos, running, etc. Adding the #foamroller is a great way to reinforce alignment in the leg as well as gives you feedback when needing  to focus on getting back up from your backbend! I added 2 different variations of backbend...one traditional articulation, the other leading with the head.  A great way to work the neck muscles. 🚫 be sure you’re comfortable with #backbend before attempting different variations. ❤️

Safety Tip: Make sure to give your glutes a nice strong squeeze to insure your knees are protected. Try 6-8 reps hinging back only as far as you can stay stacked and aligned. Give it a go, feels so good! #stretchandstrengthen .

STANDING THIGH STRETCH .
❌when stretching the quads and hip flexors Common mistakes are pressing the foot to the pelvis which just compresses the knee joint and over arching the lower back which puts undue pressure on the lower back.
.
Instead 1️⃣press the foot away into your hand to keep pressure off the knee joint. 2️⃣Keep the knee pointing down and 3️⃣posteriorly tilt the pelvis (think tailbone to floor, pubic bone forward,and hip bones to rib cage) .
Most of us are so tight in the front hips that you will hardly have to move the leg behind you! Trust me! In fact taking the leg too far back makes most people over arch and compress the lower back instead.

For my personal journey, this poem beautifully put into words the difficult process of filing for divorce and leaving with my 3 kids to begin a new chapter after being a stay at home Mama for 16 yrs. As hard as it was going to be, I knew it was for the best for all of us. Knowing this didn’t make it any easier. Divorce sucks, especially with failed court systems the whole thing is set up so sketchy, particularly in my experience with the Sonoma County Courts. But there are times we will have to go through difficult moments in order to find peace, heal and grow from the world you knew before. 💕💓

Thigh stretches are a great antidote to all the sitting we do. -
They also help with the patterns of stress many of us hold in our bodies. -
The largest hip flexor and muscle that attaches the legs to the torso is the iliopsoas. In my body this is intimately connected with stress. It grips, tightens and shortens, especially on my right side, when I feel anxious, overwhelmed or scared. -
Finding a strong but gentle way to relax this area does wonders for resetting my nervous system to a more calm state. -

At an intensive with Ron Fletcher, I was asked to do the thigh stretch or hinge pattern.  Ron’s pattern is S-L-O-W and not for the faint of heart (or thigh.) You make your way down in four, slow, full breaths, inhale to lengthen and THEN, come up slowly to the top.  It’s a killer, but when you are asked to do a piece of movement in front of your teacher, you make it work. .

To this day, I remember the tremors in my thighs as I wondered if I could complete the whole piece.  I remember making it to the bottom and thinking “Ok, girl, nowhere to go but up!” I remember the horror of realizing he was going to tell a story while I held the position - we affectionately called this a “Fletcher moment.” He completed his story and said “Now breathe yourself up.” I breathed hard and made it back to vertical, sipping air to calm the Vasovagal Syncope response that my body has to stress and willing myself to stay upright.  He looked at me with a twinkle in his eye and said “Yes, now it was quite good, but your arms floated away from your thighs.... let’s do it again, shall we?” .

There are many experiences in my life that helped me earn my “grit” as a teacher and as a human. My experience as a student of Ron’s was a special highlight of the bunch. .

You need a good Co-contraction between abdominals and glutes in order to open the hips and the back. Don’t let the name fool you, it’s quad work as much as it is lengthening. Stay teaching long from the knees to the crown of the head, don’t aim to go too low until you get the hang of it. .

✨Hint: since you may not “feel” whether you’re getting it right, film yourself so you can check your own posture. Your back should be long and not bending or arching, remember you only hinge at the knee, while quads abs and glutes do all the work. 👌🏻

➡️ Find a comfortable surface to kneel on (not like the one I picked! 😅).
➡️ Keep your collar bones wide open and hold your shoulder-blades neutral all throughout (try not to curl your shoulders forward!).
➡️ Keep your pelvis neutral (sit-bones pointing down to your heels) and your abdominal muscles deeply connected.
➡️ Focus on the way down (sitting back to your heels) if you want to strengthen your thighs but also give them a lean shape (no bulk!).
➡️ HAVE FUN! 🤩💃🏻🌟

Apesar de parecer tranquilo, o “Thigh Stretch” é um exercício que exige bastante controle de tronco e de escapulas, e principalmente do quadríceps, que além de estar alongando, ele atua fazendo força para “freiar” o movimento de descida do corpo.  @fla_mmoreira

Hip flexors, chest & neck, the areas that are always a concern especially in men! Working with the champ & personal trainer Kirk Miller on some moves that can be done anywhere! Thigh stretch to chest expansion with neck rotation. Pick up some weights (they don’t have to be pink! 😁) or two small bottles of water and use the extra weight to get a deeper stretch and opposition when you draw your abs in! Mindful stretches that can be done at home before or after your workout for healthy muscles & joints to increase & support mobility! Get stretching & strengthening guys with these simple but super effective Pilates moves! 👌🏼
