RISKY BUSINESS 😎
•”Researchers at Stanford University discovered that a particular dopamine receptor (D2) plays a critical role in risky decision-making. The work was done with rats. The rats were given a choice of two food levers.”
• 🐀 “The ‘safe investment’ lever released a small but consistent amount of sugar water each time it was pressed. 🐀 The "risky investment" lever delivered a smaller amount most of the time, but on 25 percent of presses, it released a large quantity of sugar water.”
•”Some rats preferred the "risky" lever to the "safe" one, choosing it more than half the time. The other "risk avoidant" rats were strongly influenced by their last choice. If they chose the risky lever and got a tiny payoff, they chose the safe lever the next time.”
•”When the rats chose the risky lever and received miserly payoff, D2 receptors transmitted a signal, and the signal was much LARGER in the risk-AVOIDANT rats than in the risk-seeking rats”
•”RISKY rats did not receive enough NEGATIVE feedback from their D2 receptors to allow them to learn to avoid making risky choices.”🤔 _____
•”The researchers stimulated the D2 dopamine receptors to boost the negative feedback signal, and 💥BOOM💥 risk seeking rats instantly turned into risk-avoidant rats!”
• “The researchers also gave the rats a drug that dampens neural responses to loss, and 💥BOOM💥 risk avoidant rats turned into risk seeking rats! “
•I believe taking risks shifts #energy . It opens the door to opportunities that wouldn’t have been revealed otherwise. It changes ones mentality, drive and mindset. YES! It can be scary as 💩but isn’t that a true test of #bravery ? #Faith vs. #Fear . Which side are you on? Will you let fear paralyze you? Or will you rise up and step into discomfort?
•Don’t we #win regardless of the outcome...as long as we’re learning along the way? Might as well fall, stumble and take a few on the chin while we rise to #greatness ! I don’t think anybody ever gets to the top unscathed. #riseup
•Where my #RiskyRats at?! ✊🏾
It’s that Day of the year again.. 39 years counting now.. and I will count them until we’ll meet again 💞.. This year I’m going to do something totaly different.. I’m going to make this Day a ‘special’ Day.. Not a Day of Grief.. But a Day of Succes ❤️🍀💫✨.. Not a Day of missing you
But to Celebrate you! 🤗🤗❤️ I know you’re already proud of what I've achieved in life..
But I’m going to make you prouder than you already are!
Just keep sending me the tools 🗝..
and I will use them as they are meant to 💫.. You went away to soon.. But God only knows why he needed you there.. In the World of Spirits.. The World of the Unknown.. The Unknown were there is no physical language ..
But as the years passed by I've learned to translate the unphysical to the physical.. Happy Spirit Day Papa.. ✨💞😇💞✨.. I’m always remembering you to keep your spirit alive✨💫💞... Much LOVE
Your Maya ❤️✨💫🍀
This is my community sampler quilt.
When I look at it today, the only thing that comes to my mind is gratefulness.
Taking part in that sew along brought me excitement, emotions, challenges, self-development and growth.
At present, I feel I'm looking for my own style. I'm trying to specify who I am as a creator/maker. So, I keep making things/collecting experiences and thinking a lot about what gives me the greatest spin and fun in sewing. It's a wonderful and tough process.
Today Sharon Holland announced that she's going to run another quilt along. I'm in! Another lesson! I like to learn!
Thank you 😊
Heavily inspired by @realdomjoly and his awesome audiobook Scary Monsters and Super Creeps, to repurchase this bad boy nearly 35 years after I was originally given it as a little 5 year old! Shit yeah! Back in my hands! #theunknown#ghosts#monsters#ufo
#oilfieldlife "If I'm an advocate for anything, it's to move. As far as you can, as much as you can. Across the ocean, or simply across the river. Walk in someone else's shoes or at least eat their food. It's a plus for everybody." (#anthonybourdain )
The most common question I’ve been asked recently is how I’m feeling about moving to PA and leaving Colorado. I find it hard to give a clear answer or even the same answer. But I do know that I am not sad and everything feels right. I am transitioning out of Colorado knowing that I can always go back. It’s bittersweet, exciting, and once again terrifying. I am giving myself 1-2 years to do something that will take me out of my comfort zone again. The unknown is unsettling in the best way. I just know that anything is possible if you truly want it. ❤️ Photo by my fav home girl 📷 @melissaenriquez
You are a sailor
Drift way from the harbor
Pull up the anchor
That binds you down
Set sail towards the horizon
Take off the blindfold
And hoist the sail
Let the wind be your guide
Sun and the Moon your compass
Steering through uncharted waters
Sometimes calm weather
Or, inclement weather, rocking your ship
Tackling the deep waters with alacrity
Unfathomable depths, yet the ship sails
Cutting through the waters
The saline water, which is a part of you
Seagulls guide you towards the shore
Anchoring at the preferred destination
Every grain of sand cushions your feet
Welcoming you to the island of bliss
Cut off from the mainland
Yet, helping you connect with yourself
Now it’s time to unwind
And join the party after a successful voyage
Ready to set sail for another expedition
As a sailor, cruise till the end
