Dog love rant ahead! 🚨 Can I just take a minute to say how much my life has forever been changed by my dog, Feist? .
I got her (and her sister) when I was wayyy too young to understand the responsibility and commitment of being a pet owner. 10 years later and I don’t have a single regret. Not even after I lost Feist’s sister, Dharma, to brain cancer two years ago. All of that sadness didn’t come close to measuring up to all the happiness she brought me over the years. .
My dogs have been there for me through every possible stressor and have given me hope when I have felt lost. All I have to do is think about my dog and it puts a huge smile on my face. Literally the easiest self care I could possibly imagine!! .
There is nothing that makes me happier than how excited Feist gets when I come home- even if I’m only gone for 5 minutes! .
I am a huge proponent of using pets therapeutically- both inside and outside of the therapy room. I’m happy to support you in bringing your pets to session or in working together to determine if your pet should be designated as an emotional support animal. Reach out if you’re interested in the process!
How has your relationship with your pets shaped your life? 🐶❤️
***Therapist Feature*** You know those 1980s type of MTV beach scenes where you see some hunky Baywatch dude holding out his arms while the hot bikini babe runs in slow motion and finally lands in his arms? Yes, that’s what it’s like with Zuzu (with her being the hot babe, of course).
Zuzu is 12 years old and she has been volunteering as a therapy dog for 1 year. With her Mama, HY, they are regular visitors to the Institute of Mental Health (IMH).
We asked HY this question - “What was it about Zuzu that made you realise she’d be perfect as a therapy dog?” Two versions came back to us. The version from the 2-legged goes “I realise that she would be a perfect therapy dog because in her world, everyone is equal and she loves to approach and lean against strangers (albeit hoping for some treats or pats) 😍 “
And the version from the 4-legged? “I realise that I would be a perfect therapy dog because I don’t understand or worry too much about boundaries with people. I would simply walk up to and lean against them expecting pats. Mama thinks I’m ‘self centred’ but hey, that’s called spreading the love.”
Words of wisdom indeed, Zuzu!
Y’all know those dogs that are truly one of a kind that you are blessed with in a lifetime? Oh these two right here ...... Chicky Nugget brought a deer leg , and of just zoom in on Bit Bits (my black service dog on the left ) and get a good giggle for the day. #servicedogsofinstagram#therapydogsofinstagram
