Recently, @kiss.my.spurs asked her followers if they have ever had a horse heal their heart. Many people responded with an astounding YES! Horses are good for the soul and an outlet for many people. I know whenever I felt overwhelmed spending time with Effie always helped me...which is why I really struggled when my horse was no longer easily accessible to me.
She is 1938 miles away. It's hard, horses have always been my stress reliever. I hope some day (soon) my pretty girl can live near me again. For now I am grateful for friends who let me 'borrow' their horses when I need a horsey fix (like Ms Jynx in this picture) and even more grateful for @hunkapiprograms. I only just started volunteering there but I have a feeling it's going to become my happy place 💕🐎🐖 .
What do you do when you are feeling strung out and overwhelmed? Do any animals help you connect back to yourself?

Dont shoot people down because they see different. So minds are filled of art and colors, while others may just see grey (gray) and others only see black and white. Art is ART regardless of the ARTist #adultcolori#theraputic#art#love#freedom

It is in this relinquishment that we'll find deeper relaxation. We'll root down in our bodies, our breath, and the way things exist naturally on their own. Where is the line?
If we have lived in dangerous environments,
our sensory systems are primed to recognize danger more readily.
This can make it difficult to accurately assess whether or not a person or environment is a threat.
Anything that reminds us of a previous danger that we have encountered can activate our survival physiology. ⚡️ This can make it challenging to get close to people, be in an institutional setting such as school, remain at a job or even feel safe in our own homes.
We become trapped in a cycle that reinforces this danger focused neural circuitry.⚡️ In order to differentiate between safety and threat,
we need to prime our physiology to do so.
Ideally this happens when we are young, through our caregivers helping us differentiate between the two and calm us using their own physiology until we are developmentally capable of internalizing their responses.
Even if we didn’t have this experience in childhood, the good news is that never too late to re-calibrate!
Working with a therapist gives us an opportunity to slow down and notice what is arising in our bodies and when we are becoming activated or shutdown due to our perception of threat.
Often times we are so accustomed to this occurring we don’t consciously realize what is happening. ⚡️ Another key factor is working to establish places where we do feel safe and relationships with people that we feel safe with, so that we have an internal felt sense of what safety feels like.
Experiences of safety, however small and brief, are important touch stones for our minds and bodies. ⚡️ Additionally, in the therapeutic relationship we can receive feedback and support that can help us make sense of our experiences and form coherent somatic and cognitive narratives.
This can also happen efficiently in relationships or in community,
when those around us are able to differentiate between threat and safety and they can provide us with feedback about our experiences and a grounded presence.
