“Victims are Innocent” .
I’ve posted this print before but I wanted to talk a bit about it. .
I want people to know that if someone has hurt you, someone has wronged you, you are innocent. So many victims of sexual crimes and offenses walk around with guilt. They feel dirty, guilty, they feel tainted. But in reality, they are not to blame. They have done nothing wrong, they are victims.
I knew this would be a difficult subject to portray, and the image could go multiple ways. Scared, sad, lonely, violated. These are all things that victims of sexual crimes feel. But I wanted to show that there is more than that. They are more than that. They have had something happen to them, but they aren’t any less virtuous or valuable because of it. They are not ruined. I wanted them to know that they are beautiful.
Lilies stand for purity. Myrtle stands for virginity. Carnations stand for innocence. And the brier rose stands for love.
Victims, you are still pure, you are still virtuous, you are still clean, you are still beautiful, you still have a chance for real love. Victims, you are innocent. .
All we can do is learn from what has happened and grow. And that grow will sometimes be in spite of what has happened. .
