This kitchen will be hard at work and we will be feeding a small army over the weekend. Good thing my neighbour gave us a five foot zucchini. Not sure if it's edible. But it'll feed more than two dozen teenagers so I'm game to try.

Lately one question has been plaguing me. Why am I doing this? And by this I mean literally THIS. Why am I making breakfast and taking an extra five minutes to style a preparation shot where I have to flip over EVERY SINGLE EGG because Danny bought the not cute kind of eggs with stamps? I don't get it. Why do eggs even have stamps? Are they going to a bar? It makes no sense. 🍳
I've never known what I'm doing with this whole weird instagram thing but I knew it was fun. It was fun to kind of hustle to get people to follow and then have people listen to what I have to say/write. But now the ever elusive 10k is actually in my sights and I'm just feeling so very meh and why. Because let's be real, everyone on here has a purpose and I’m looking for mine.
Am I doing this to get free stuff? To post affiliate links so that I can make 20 cents on a package of ramen? To create something that I can sell? Get external validation from others because my self esteem is crap? Who knows. I don't. But still, I'm here. 🤦🏼♀️
Here's what I like about instagram. I like talking and connecting with strangers. I like getting to try out design ideas and share products/things/experiences that I like/d. I like having an opportunity to have my writing read by more people. I like making dumb and cute funny stories that feel like me. I have having a platform of sorts- I'm just still not sure what I want to do with it.
So here's the thing? Can it be okay that I don't know what I want to do with this thing? I'm asking that both to you all and to myself. There is no STATE OF THE INSTAGRAM that I have formally prepared and I'm very much just fumbling around hiding stamps on eggs. I do my best to be as transparent as possible with you guys as I try to work out what feels right for me. And yes, all of this is dumb but that's okay- sometimes the things we think are dumb. If it's taking up brain space I still think it's worth putting out into the ether, even if it all feels silly.
So there's your very Friday "on brand" post from yours truly. Let me know what you think about my dumb stuff, or what dumb stuff you're thinking about. I'm good with either. After all we’re in this together.🖤
It's the last day of Summer!! Which means more attic time soon 💃🏽💃🏽 and cooler weather that won't make being outside so miserable. I love doing DIY projects in the Fall. It gives me a chance to enjoy the fall weather before our Michigan winters hit. But DIY isn't always sipping on hot chocalate and enjoying the breeze. (I hate coffee so hot chocalate is king in this house) DIY can blow. I can tell you that for a fact. BUT the pay off can be so rewarding. We often go into DIY projects all excited about the money we're about to save by doing it ourselves. But we often forget that 9 times out of 10 they'll be some major bumps in the road .
If you saw my story last night, you got a peek into the problems I had with my deck/purgola. I'm happy to report that she's now FINISHED 💃🏽💃🏽 And if you look at this photo, you get the see the DIY stain I did on the ceiling. I knew it was going to be A LOT of work but 12 hours later, needless to say, I was OVER it. I regretted my decision about halfway through the process, per usual. But, I stuck it out and got that sh*t donee. So when you get ready to start on a new project, get excited, make a plan, revise the plan, revise the plan again, get frustrated, take breaks so you don't burn your project to the ground, and then get back to work. It'll be worth it in the end. Check out my story to see a before of the ceiling. Happy last day of SUMMEERRR. 💃🏽💃🏽

Muddy Waters 🎶
I met Tony in Hawaii when our Coast Guard units were joining together for a mission out in Kauai. Right after I saw him, I offered to show him around the island the next day. We met up at the Hilton where he was staying and I was a few minutes late...I apologized and explained that I was running behind because I sat on my Muddy Waters CD and was pretty upset about it. He stared at me for about 15 seconds, reached around to his back pocket and pulled out a tattered book- ‘Can’t Be Satisfied’
The Muddy Waters Autobiography.
We said that we loved each other the next day and were able to spend a few months together before his unit went back to San Diego.
We’re celebrating our 10 year anniversary in a little over a week and I was so excited to get him this map poster from @mapiful 🗺 we spent every day for a few months swimming together in Nawililwili Harbor on the island of Kauai. One of the best times of my life💞 I was able to customize everything on my poster and it’s just perfect! Head on over and check out their site! So user friendly!
Happy Thursday, my friends! ✌🏻
Turns out that waking up late because the power went out in the middle of the night is a really effective way to way to get everyone out the door in 11 minutes ⏰. Little dude practically did a happy dance when I told him he could skip brushing teeth🦖. This room does NOT look like this right now, but I'm feeling super accomplished that no one left the house in pajamas!🤟#settingthebarlow#iamanawesomemom
It’s Thursday— let’s do this!⚡️🌈
This is the ✨mood✨ for the powder room we’re building in November. Living for it, honestly.
I’ve located most of the products I’d like to put in this bathroom, but Brandon and I can’t seem to agree on a sink. 😂 Anyone know where I can find a good wall mount sink, not square or rectangular, with no faucet holes? It’s been an adventure already.
Bathrooms are hard to photograph. I was in the tub for this shot. But I bet you guys find yourselves in awkward and weird positions to capture a frame.
Also, update on the guest bedroom. I dislike it. A lot. I'm glad I tried what I had in mind but I made some mistakes. And now I have to reprime, repaint and move furniture and art.
I debated sharing a shot of it but chose not to because it hurts my eyeballs. (So really I'm just protecting your eyeballs when I don't post it.) But I do believe in being transparent and real with you guys. I just don't want a permenant record of it here. Hahaha!
Everytime I revisit the room with "fresh" eyes it makes me laugh at my ridiculousness. And then my eyeballs have to take a break because it hurts again. So I don't fix it. It's a vicious cycle. I'm only torturing myself at this point.
I'm gonna share it in my stories today. Stay tuned. 😅😱😨
Friends, we’ve got ourselves a white brick fireplace!! 🙌🏻 🔥 When we first looked at our house this was definitely one of our favorite features, other than the fact that it was painted the same custard yellow color as the rest of the walls. While we were stuck inside all last weekend due to the hurricane, we knocked this project out with one of the 2 gallons of white paint the previous owner left in our storage shed. So the fact that we got our pretty white brick fireplace for FREE is just an added bonus! 🤗 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This weekend we will be tackling the walls, hence the paint swatches to the right. Stay tuned!
I still have lots that I would love to do in this bathroom, but alas, money does not grow from trees as they say. I had a chat with Laura from @helmick_hacienda about it one day, and we were talking about wallpaper, to swapping out this mirror for a larger round mirror. After listening to a podcast of “This is Fifty” where Nate Berkus was interviewed, I decided that I’m going to continue on this never-ending quest to decorate my house by finding a few pieces I love, and styling them in each room. That way, I will have even a corner of a room that I totally love! The question/challenge/fun part is how to do this within a budget. Because the budget is boss!!! And I mean that in the best way possible; we are big @daveramsey & @youneedabudget fans, and being on a budget has led my husband and I to achieve goals that we have set. @target will always, and forever, have a special place in my heart, they have so many great things, and they are pretty reasonable!!!! I had a lovely day with a lovely friend and pretended I wasn't poorly, but when I walked in the door of my house, it hit me like a load of bricks. I'm sick. I've cancelled my dinner plans, ordered pizza, and I'm trying to rustle up enough energy to get some laundry put away. #bigplans#headcoldsaretheworst#goodnight
As we wrap up a few construction projects and jump into a few new ones, we’re reminiscing on this marble beauty with a fun shampoo niche accent tile. Introducing a new shape or pattern is a great way to take a shampoo niche from purely functional to fun and beautiful
