I've been meaning to try Tanjore Tiffin Room in Versova for the longest time and today I finally managed to drop by. The general stereotype about South Indian food, is that is is all idlis, dosas and vadas. The honest fact is, Tamil Nadu alone has enough sub cuisines to keep you occupied for days on end. And, that is where Tanjore Tiffin Room is a great place for first timers. What is particularly interesting is the tasting platter that lets you sample 6-7 gravy variants spread across the state before choosing how you want your preparation to be. It took me 20 odd years to love the food of my own people, but I am glad I got here. Better late than never et al.

* White Lotus Paste with Durian Paste, 榴莲馅白莲蓉, which comprises a mix of white lotus paste and an alluring durian paste that adds a twist to the classic offering. Lotus seeds provide texture and bite.
* Longan with Wugu, 龙眼五谷, which came with a filling made with pure dried longan paste, dried longan and a mix of five different seeds and berries – pumpkin seed, sunflower seed, fructus lycii whch is a mix of wolfberries and goji berries, white sesame and black sesame.
* White Lotus Paste with Yolk Blend & Mixed Seeds什锦果仁蛋黄馅白莲蓉, where pine nuts, pumpkin seeds and melon seeds provide textural contrast to the smooth, sweet and savoury blend of white lotus paste and creamy egg yolk centre in this golden mooncake. 🔸
