This is Norman. Norman is a
Dwarf Calamondin Tree, and he's the last house plant I am purchasing for a while (this is your permission call me out if I'm on here in a week with another new plant, please). A combination of @bloomandgrowradio 's podcast on citrus trees, caring for one of my plant care clients' citrus trees, & the fact that my partner, Darren grew up in the south with citrus trees and they are nostalgic for him are all reasons I wanted a type of citrus tree, but I've decided that I need to take a break from my current little plant spending spree.
I really don't want to fall into a habit of just buying more and more plants but instead want to try to cultivate gratitude and care for the 50+ plants I already own. Also, we have no space, so there's that, too.
With that aside, I'm so excited to care for this guy, & I hope to have him for a very long time! It's my understanding that Calamondins are a good citrus tree to start with because they are more forgiving than other citrus plants. I potted mine in a self watering planter to be extra safe as I figure out exactly how much water he's going to need (I'm guessing I will have to water fairly frequently based on how my other plants fare in our window). Happy Monday, plant friends💚🌿
Yesterday was a roller coaster of a day, but it ended off on a HIGH note! (Literally. At a rooftop bar! Around sunset time!🌆)
I was feeling really down because my pain levels were intense and I was depressed about my future. My family had been visiting but they had left. Or so I thought. My sister's flight ended up getting canceled, which is stressful for them for sure, but I went to babysit the kids at their hotel while they slept so my sister and brother-in-law could get food.
While my sister put my niece to bed, I hung out with my brother-in-law at the hotel's rooftop bar on the 4th floor. Where we had a perfect view of the #CNTower . It was honestly so lovely! We haven't had much one-on-one time lately, so we got to catch up a bit! Later, while we waited for my Uber, we shared a piece of cake. 🍰
Pretty grateful for that little adventure in my own city! Happy Monday all. Hope your week is a special one! 😍
Oh hey there.
We are just crawling out of a packed week while trying to spritz some "down time" during the days to make some time for summer.
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.
As promised, here's a recap from last Sunday's cookie mayhem.
Last year, @hiimsol convinced me to send him cookies. The cookies were mint chocolate. He is known for his cookie acquiring abilities. Within the same year, he convinced me to participate in #CCC02017 where 35 bakers/bakeries showed up with their favourite cookies to be judged on and to raise funds for charity @argonautrowing. I placed top 5 with my skor toffee goodness.
When I was asked to participate again this year, I said ...heck yes. Supporting local charities is something I'm extremely passionate about. Knowing where funds go and how they are used is extremely important to me. So within a packed week, and being sick the morning of, I managed to work out some cookie magic for this year's run of #CCC02018
I went against my better judgement and went with a last minute recipe my friend suggested because I hadn't had time to plan ahead. The cookie didn't secure any medals but I was able to share the room with some amazing people from varying degrees of success, with a common goal of helping others. We raised a total of $100,000 with proceeds going to @sisteringto @bitsto and @aplaceforfood
I'm looking forward to #CCC02019 ❤
I'm impressed by the baking community in this city and I want to congratulate @sftebakery @sweetflourbakeshop @bakingzen @tripl3baked @sisteringto who all snagged Top 5!
I wish I could tell you I remember their cookies but after my 7th cookie, I was pretty disgusted and have vowed to not eat another cookie for another month. It also didn't help that I ended up @copacabanato after the cookie off for a 30th birthday celebration.
A huge thank you to my person @paul.hynes for always having my back and being by my side as I take on more challenges, exciting work and bolder adventures.
All in all, it was a wonderful day and a wonderful event and I can't wait for next year.
What kind of cookie would you make if you were to do an event such as this one? Let's hear it!
Who are you after dark?
