Burgos > Tardajos > Rabe > Hornillos del Camino: 21 km
Today we ventured onto the Meseta, a large plateau which is described in our guide book as being “boring, repetitive, and bleak.” This portion of the Camino is also known for being the most mentally challenging, and by our calculations it will take us about a week to get across! Today we received a special pilgrim blessing in the small church we passed. We also received medallions of Mary Magdalene for protection...which we promptly took off as soon as we left the church. #awkward#notcatholic#thanksanyway
Feet-wise, I felt amazing. Taking that extra day of rest truly made a difference for me, and I’m hoping that the worst of my feet problems are behind me now. 🤞🏼
The town we’re staying in tonight has a fun story: legend is that Napoleon’s troop stole all the chickens while the townspeople were at mass. They killed the birds and tried to smuggle them out of town in their drums. Unfortunately for the troops, one rooster miraculously came back to life and revealed their crime! Naturally, there is a rooster monument in the plaza...🐔
E N C O U N T E R '18 R E F L E C T I O N 🚀🚀🚀 I've been reflecting and just had a quick thought that I'd like to share with y'all.
I experienced Encounter differently this year as I chose to only attend the final night rally. Very unsure of what to expect I still came with an expectation. I'd like to say that my expectation was met, but that would be an understatement. "In awe" is better. He basically just took my expectation and did exceedingly, abundantly, above what I expected! This reminded me of the importance of expectation - not only for a church service but for life. Can I encourage you as I was encouraged?
I was encouraged to 1. ALWAYS have/come with expectation. Expectation for: the Sunday as well as the Mon. & Tues. & Wed. etc; the highs as well as the lows; the Conference as well as the quiet time; THAT day as well as everyday. I believe that an expectant heart is an open heart. & 2. Don't limit God by the "magnitude" of an event or day. I think it's sometimes easy for me (and maybe you too) to just say "Its only ONE session of the conference or it's just a normal day, nothing special, so whatever happens, happens". When, instead, I/we can say "Hey, it's one session so God must have something special for me, or yes, it's just a normal day, but what do You want to say to/show me today, Lord?" I believe that when we allow God to move without any limits, just an open heart, He WILL show up and show off! 🚀🚀🚀 #Hopethisencouragedyou#Enc18#icametohavechurch#GodlyExpectationExceeds#WorldlyExpectationDissapoints#Ifyougotthisfar#ThankYou#Ifyoudidnt#Youwouldntbereadingthesehashtags 😁#Thanksanyway#sundayfunday
#BadWitch came out on the 22nd and I’ve been trying to process it. This, in my humble opinion, is my least favorite album that #NIN has put out. It opens with a wall of impenetrable noise called “Shit Mirror.” In the song he wails into a microphone with what sounds like thousands and thousands of overdrive plugins on the track. And then he put thousands and thousands of overdrive plugins on the master track, the only redeeming part of this one is the extremely catchy “New world, new times, mutation feels alright” at the end. “Ahead of Ourselves” is almost the same thing, only even more overdrive is applied during the chorus. These two songs will probably never click with me. They remind me of Ministry in a way. A style of industrial that predominantly uses guitars and just douses it in extremely wet overdrive. Moving on, “Play the Goddamn Part” was really interesting and was the first thing that made me turn my head towards this album. The dark instrumental is very reminiscent of past TR/AR soundtrack work and actually reminds me of The Fragile’s instrumentals. “God Break Down the Door” is the cleanest sound on the album. The song has a really good beat that reminds me of Blackstar/Earthling Bowie, I dug it and then he actually tried to sing like Bowie. This song lacks NIN feel. It doesn’t feel like Trent singing, it feels like a Bowie impersonator. “I’m Not From This World” is really good. Like really fucking good. The best instrumental on the album. It doesn’t quite sound like any of the the past instrumental work yet it’s dark soundscapes make it feel like an actual NIN track and opens up the door to the possibility of Trent and Atticus being able to score horror movies. Last is the closer “Over and Out” this one has my favorite beat on the album. The crisp build up to the vocals is perfect and classic NIN. Reminiscent of Ghosts I-IV. Then the vocals happen. More Bowie vocals. I don’t dig the vocals but the beat continues to be awesome and atmospheric until ending with a synth chord that goes on and drones out for approximately 3 minutes, closing out the trilogy. Bad Witch isn’t a bad album, but it’s not a good NIN album. IMHO: 6/10 #review#thanksanyway
I cannot wrap my head around spending this kind of coin on cologne. I'll head in to see if I can get a whiff of this cologne... I can't see it being remotely worth the price! I've spent $100 or so on a fragrance I liked... but $450? #nah#thanksanyway
I’m lucky in an ironic way. Example: I got a free coffee from IHOP for no reason other than the waitress being nice, but I hate coffee. Of course I felt it too rude to decline and to not drink, but 14 sugar packets later and it went from being nasty to a sugary flavored nasty and the only thing worse is the after taste. 🤢 #itried#thanksanyway#ihop
