Last week we did a cross curriculum study of gingerbread stories. Students read them, compared contrasted different books, wrote persuasive letters of recommendation for their favorite & watched a video to write why they did or why they didn’t recommend it.
This time of year can be challenging but can also be fun with some extra planning. Leave me a comment & I’m happy to share my ideas & plans.
My classroom is a #flexibleseatingclassroom . I have many options from floor cushions to tables and chairs. I have four chairs that roll and this week I decided in my LA classes that students in those chairs would be responsible for helping their classmates with questions they had. I let them roll around the classroom, helping their peers and it was a blast! Kids that normally are difficult to motivate got done quickly for a change to be a roller. Loved it! #teachfromtheheart#teachersfollowteachers#classroommanagement
I had a parent conference today, since mom has Thursdays off and it was pouring last week and I didn’t want her to walk in the rain 🌧 She told me that her son gets home upset sometimes. The bus driver tells her that she notices it too. When she asks him why he is upset, he says “I want to stay in school with my teacher!” Mom also said that she sees his interest in school and is always proud to show her his work and is always talking about me💝 Mom teared up and said that her son is the happiest when he is at school and thinks the world of me and my staff💗🍎 Children need to learn that you care, then learning is possible💙 #teachlove#teachkindness#teachfromtheheart#lovealways#msdionicio 🍎 #wearemadison
Setting up a “writing invitation” for a 6.5 yo. Magnetic words, ready to be moved around and used to tell a story. Also depicted: @biglifejournal (their hardcover book is a lot prettier but this year we opted to print it out to give her lots of freedom and less pressure) and one of our Annabelle and Aiden books. Also loving our Big History (or Nature or Science) Sticker Timelines. This is what I’m doing while listening to the amazing @juliebravewriter on her Bravewriter Podcast.
Ever want your kiddos to just engage with your class after leaving and coming or transition with out interrupting everyone else? I learned about SLIME this year and I have put this visual at all my doors and on the board.. this helps the students remember what is best for the class and for themselves is to slime so everyone can focus. *I did NOT make this visuals but kuddos to that bright teacher!*
Working on Solids and Liquids! The day before the kiddos explored all the liquids and wrote down their observations and then for morning work they wrote all their ideas down on the posters around the room. I was a little hesitant to do this as morning work. Would they get it done? Would they just chat the whole time? Well.. I’m glad I didn’t listen to those voices, they were FANTASTIC! Engaged in working, talking about the science and moved at a nice pace. So proud of those little scientists.
Words of wisdom. We must give kids more credit instead of pretending they can’t hear us when we are talking about them, are oblivious to atrocities they see or hear about, and need to just fall asleep because it’s bedtime simply because we say so, without giving them the chance to process or talk about it all. Respecting children is as important as respecting adults, but unfortunately not as common. Thank you @howtoraiseakid for posting this!
I secretly cringed when she brought home a little golden book about Barbie and her magical ballet shoes 😖.... then I started playing videos of different famous ballets, reading the credits to them and trying to understand the story just from the dance and music. 😌
🇱🇷 I always consider myself as a student. And I realize that advice I give to others are the exact advice I need for myself. Because the things I want to share and teach to others such as being centered and true to yourself and accept who you are deeply, are also the things I truly want to learn. And there is no perfection as long as you teach from your heart ❤️☀️🙏🏼
Quick note regarding eating disorders. Two years ago I use to tell myself that I couldn’t help people until I would be “totally recovered”. That wasn’t true. Not true at all. I succeeded to give hope, to inspire many people suffering from ED such as bulimia or binge eating, just by sharing my story and my journey. No matter where you are on your path of recovery ❤️🦋💪🏼 .
🦋💪🏼❤️ #bulimiarecovery#addictionrecovery#addictionquotes#weteachwhatweneedtolearn#alwayslearning#perfectionisboring#teachfromtheheart#yogaquotes#yogateacheradvice#advice#advicequotes#listentoyoursoul#listentoyourheart#anorexia#bulimia#boulimie#hyperphagie#tca#troublesducomportementalimentaire#yogatca#sortirdelaboulimie#guerir#guérir#recoveryispossible#trustyourself#recovery#bingeeating#bingeeatingrecovery
I truly believe I cannot change anyone. *
That seems funny coming from a teacher who has decided to take on science & technology edicaton. I know my students have so much potential inside of them & I can see it before they can. It's my goal to help them see their potential too.
As a health coach, I feel the same way. I have people who talk to me & want to get healthy, lose weight, & change their lives. Sometimes they are not ready, andI know how they feel, I was there too.
For a really long time I wasn't ready to change. Had I not had someone believe in me first I might never have committed to myself, & made me healthier. Thank you @trevortufts 🥰
Are you ready to commit to yourself? Do you want to make a change? Now is the time don't wait for later. If you need someone to believe in you and help you find it in yourself, I'm here and ready to work with you! *
I’m learning to be mindful of and flexible with my timing. 6 months ago they were not too interested in learning Farsi and it was a struggle. Now they ask for it. Teaching the Farsi alphabet, practicing handwriting muscles and listening to Farsi songs.
It's not everyday that you look up and see #twins sitting at the "help me out" table.
The table started out as an extra place for me to put crap and has evolved into a place that kiddos seem drawn to when they're behind or needing extra help. Sometimes, when kids sit here, it becomes evident that they just need a little extra love that day. #teachfromtheheart#teachersfollowteachers#students
Just a rainy Thursday morning ☺️🌂🌦💧☔️. (...yes they are in their PJs and Crocs without socks or boots and yes they just might catch a cold. But it rains so seldom here that as soon as it started we didn’t have enough time to get properly dressed, and frankly didn’t care.)
