Teaching gets harder and harder each year. I thought when I started teaching it would get easier as the years went by and in some ways it has but what we are asked to do has increased significantly in my 10 years of teacher. Despite it all, I love my job and I love spending the day with students! #doingwhatsbestforkids#teachersofinstagram#teacherproblems
My first book Twenty Pearls of Wisdom was a long time coming. It had been a dream that I allowed others to interfere with, until God said “no more”. It was the product when I knew I needed to take BACK my power, create impact, and put my future into my own hands. These 20 Pearls I carry in my heart and will pass them down to my daughter. I have a few more copies on hand. Make sure you click the link in my bio to grab yours today!
Isn’t there magic in firsts?! ✨
I’ve always loved the 1st day of school more than the last, even as a kid. School is typically my safe space, my me space. I feel at home inside of a classroom. That’s probably why I’ve wanted to be a teacher my whole life. That’s also why the last few months have been strange for me. 😬
I mentored a student teacher, which means I gave up the role at the front of the class for all 3 of my honors English I sections. Since September! 😳 It was wonderful getting to work with another English-minded girl. It was exciting helping her craft lessons, then watching her fly. It was also anxiety-ridden for me. I realized just how much of a #controlfreak I am. I realized how much I truly value building connections with my students. I realized how simultaneously fast + slow 2 1/2 months can move. 💛
Today feels like the first day of school again. Today feels like magic. ✨
...🔍 BEING AN INFERENCE DETECTIVE 🔍It is important that we expose children to develop the skill of inferencing using a wide range of texts. My class have loved inferencing using popular lyrics and I love Christmas songs! Look for any opportunity to engage your students. Using well known songs can allow you to spend more time on developing reading skills rather than reading for the whole lesson as children are already familiar with the words!
Well, this was a proud moment. A lovely teacher on Twitter sent me a snapshot of my resource being used in her lesson. This is the first time I've seen something I've created being used. My resources have been downloaded over 50,000 times, so I know they are being used in classrooms around the world. But to see it just made me feel so warm inside and made it feel real somehow. It's honestly a lovely feeling and just makes me even more committed to keep sharing my mind with others.
I'll put a link to this resource on my bio. If you use it, please send a little snap my way.
Thank you again @h_cato for allowing me to use your photography. I'll make sure to send you the students' examples for you to look at 😊💛 #educatedmindswithmisscole#teaching#weareteachers
Long Vowel Spelling Patterns 😕 the absolute kryptonite to a majority of your kids! It’s not their fault.. the English language is really quite stupid when it comes to the spelling of the words #itbreakstherulemorethanfollowsit#ibeforeeexceptafterc#umno
These posters and Phonics Build a Word resources were a game changer this year! The talk around looking at spelling patterns was so amazing and our data for that group of kids was impressive!
Because part of being a teacher means wearing silly things for the kiddoes and then going out in public and forgetting how ridiculous you look until you catch a glimpse in the mirror! #anythingforthekids

#Repost @iamrachelricketts Make sure you are shining today! And if you are lucky enough to have a snow day, use today to do some reflecting on how you will shine the light on yourself at work. For example, teaching with your door open, sharing videos of you teaching a bomb lesson with your colleagues, inviting parents/families/visitors to stop into your room, volunteering to pilot a new initiative, sharing lessons your doing on social media etc. Often times many of us are really great teachers but we can be so isolated in our classrooms that people don’t realize all the magic that is happening. It’s absolutely okay to remind them that you got that magic!

Last year, we made these super cute and easy ornaments for parent gifts. We used our green screen photos and students cut themselves out to put inside the ornament. They filled it with snow or glitter, tied a string and label on top, and they came out so cute and parents loved them! #greenscreen#ornaments#parentgifts#christmasintheclassroom
